Bought this as a b-day gift for my boyfriend after he commented that he likes the one I use at home (different model, about $20 more, larger and not portable). Since he travels out of the country for business and has trouble sleeping, I thought this would be perfect for him. Tried it out a few nights to make sure the sounds all work, etc. and its pretty cool. A wide variety of sounds to choose from. I especially like the zen bells sound, and of course the ocean waves.

Travel Sound Machine
We replace an older sound machine with this purchase. The new one is great. It is lighter, easier to use, and has more sounds. We like the new sounds as we feel they are better than the old ones. When using head phones the old machine had a low buss, the new machine does not had any buss or distracting noises when useing the head phone. A Great buy

I am a flight attendant and put many hours in each month. I stay at numberous hotels and getting asleep and staying asleep are always a problem. With the sound machine I have one constant noise all night long ... Its amazing what a blessing it has been for me. I truely love it.

Best Sound Machine For Travel Out There
This is the best sound machine for traveling I have found. It doesnt have the big sound power of a larger at home only system, but it produces more than enough sound to work when I travel and even at home. The sound quality is really good. The compact size and 2 time zone clock is really sweet! It has plenty of sounds (19), with white noise being my favorite. It even has a voice memo feature and an amazing adapter with plugs you can switch for different countries. This unit is tough to beat.
Great machine- goo sound
I used this every night - all night. I would wake up when it shut off, so I let it run all night. I never used batteries, and the machine died after only 1 and a half years. It was small and light enough to travel with .
Adequate description of the item
I bought this to replace one that I had purchased several years before. This one does not seem as sturdy as the one I previously owned and does not have a room temperature reading like the old one did.
Travel Sound Machine
I use this sound machine with a headband with built in speakers. It has the jack I needed.I love the choice of sounds. Great range for volume. No matter what we did we could only get the travel alarm to work, so the dual alarm option was not available. Luckily this was not a problem for me, but might be for some.
Sharper Image Sound Machines First Rate
I love my new Sharper Image sound machine. I have used a SI for over ten years. I would give this the top rating but it cant compare to the SI Sound Soother 20, no longer available. But dont hesitate getting the Travel Sound Machine if you need a new machine. It has most but not all of the features you need in a sound machine. The only issue I have is that the night light is way too bright. It needs to be able to go dark. In spite of that I highly recommend it.

live in the city, sometimes noisy, drowns out the outdoor sounds, especially garbage trucks and plows. used to turn on stereo or AC for this purpuse, much more energy efficient.

Great for travel! Hotels are always solo noisy, and hard to sleep because of it, but this little machine lets me relax and sleep.
poor quality
very cheap looking and poor quality, I expected more from a Sharper Image product. The tabs that hold the battery cover in plance broke off the first time I opened it up and the button to set the alarm function did not work.
Not what it used to be
I had an earlier version of this sound machine and it endured many years of almost constant use. I was very disappointed with this latest version. It did not have the same sturdiness, sound quality, or sound volume. I returned the machine.
Good, but...
Wanted this clock for the noise maker, which is fine. But surprisingly, the number display light cannot be turned off while sleeping. Im surprised because many of us who cant sleep due to external noises are also bothered by light. The clock is being returned as a result. Theres an app for noise on iPhones...
Perfect!
I was looking for battery operated white noise for sleeping in the camper. This totally fits the bill with plenty choices of sounds. We used it for the first time last weekend and it worked perfectly! Great volume control for those that want softer (or louder) noise. Thanks Sharper Image - I knew I could depend on you!
How this new one compares to the old one
I keep this model by my bed and also take it on trips. I use the battery option exclusively. I especially miss having the temperature on it. And, for me personally, I dont need to have the other time zone display showing. It is very sturdy, I am just sorry that it is heavier than the old model because it will add weight to my carry-on. If I would have realized it was heavier and didnt have the temp I might have researched other products before purchasing. I bought it because of the white noise rain sound. And I also like that one of the sounds is for acclimating to new time zones.

I have owned several similar sound machines, which I rely on during my frequent travels. I am a light sleeper, especially in unfamiliar sleeping surroundings, but, the sound machine makes me feel at home, as soon as I shut my eyes. I like the dual time/alarm settings that I can program ahead and have one less thing to worry about. The electric power converter/adaptors is handy, but I rely on the battery backup for convenience and assurance.
Travel Sound machine.
We use every night traaveling or at home. It is very simple to set the clock and all the functions. I also like that it comes with it own international plug adapters, and doesnt require a transformer for changes in electrical current.

I purchased this because we like to travel and the one we use at home is much larger. (I never wanted to risk taking ours while we traveled). At home we ALWALYS sleep with a sound machine. This was PERFECT!! We recently went away and used it EVERY night. We LOVE it!!It will be going on ALL future trips. The size & sounds are great.
A Sleep Life Saver
I do not have this exact product, because I bought a Travel Sound Machine from, The Sharper Image, 11 years ago. I am a Flight Attendant, and it has been a life saver on layovers. It blocks out doors slamming in the middle of the night, at the Hotel, and maid service in the morning. I also use it at home. The best!!!! Today I purchased a Sound Soother White Noise Machine (that is not a travel machine to keep in my bedroom at home),so I do not have to take it in and out of my flight bag all the time. Thumbs UP!!!!

A good nights sleep away from home is not always easy to come by! But for many years we have traveled with a sound machine so that sleep doesnt elude us. Our machine finally bit the dust, so we purchased the Sharper Image Machine for travel and find it actually better than the "other brand". Large readable time display, and many sounds to choose from, make it a perfect fit for anyone who travels. Highly recommended!

My husbands snoring has been an ongoing problem. Hes had surgery, we sleep in separate beds when we travel, and sometimes I move into the (now vacant) kids rooms. The travel sound machine has changed all that - its compact and effective.

Great Ocean Wave Sounds
I have difficulty getting to sleep. The sounds, especially the ocean waves, are very condusive to falling asleep. This is what I purchased this for so it definitely serves me well. I admit, though, I have not learned how to use the alarm successfully.

This has been one of my favorite purchases from Sharper Image! Initially this was planned for use with our travel-music,alarm,small size plus the soother sounds. But quickly found the best use has been when the grandkids stay overnight. They take great delight in going through all the soother sounds until they find the perfect one for that night! Have found they quickly drift off to sleep & stay that way all night! This would be a good gift for new parents as well as new grandparents!

I bought this product to use when traveling and now use it at home as well. It was easy to use for a not so techie type like me. Just as good as my stay at home sound machine so you can use it at home as well as travel.
Easy to use
This alarm clock was easy to set up and easy to use. I love the sound machine part of it. The white noise is the most used sound for our family when we travel. The only nature sound Im not fond of is the rain, it doesnt sound natural to me. Other than that I cant think of anything bad about this clock.

I generally use this product when I travel. It has a nice rich sound, it has an easy to see display screen and it is easy to use. It is light weight and compact.
MARVELOUS for tinnitis sufferers
I use this because I suffer from Tinnitis. I initally thought on buying it, that it could only be used for the 30, 60, or 90 min intervals described on the packing, and unfortunately gave it a bad rating on the [@] site. However, it can run continuously. I use it with headphones so I dont disturb my wife. Finding quality headphone is VERY difficult.
Best birthday gift for my wife, ever
My wife hears everything at night. House noises, the cats downstairs, my snoring, the dogs outside and such. She uses the device off and on, but, she knows that if she needs it, it will be there, which allows her to drift off to sleep without it. It is a great back-up she knows she always has as an option, if she needs it.

Purchased to cancel highway noise by my apt.. Chose this model because it is both battery and electric powered. Love the size. Sits on my bed side table very neatly. The only thing is setting it up. Im not tech-savy, so took me a half-hour to do. Then its just one button to push! Try it! Youll like it!

Wished I had purchased the $50.00 version but the internet description did not include an AC adapter that I later discovered in the SI magazine that came with this [$] Travel sound machine.I only enjoy the white noise setting and wish the machine had a volume control. Also it rattles unless you place something under it.This was a replacement for a SI sound soother purchased 10 years ago, so it should last a longtime. Bottom line the less expensive version-THE SOUND SOOTHER would have suited me better complete with an AC adapter.
When you need help in going to sleep
I wanted a sound machine to plug into the electric current. The volume controls are good as is the variety of sounds: some for sleeping, others for waking. My only negative remark is that the machine gives off a little too much light, which isnt helpful when trying to drop off to sleep.
Sleep well at home or on the road!
Ive had a similar Sharper Image device for about 20 years always at my bedside. The old one still works! I decided to upgrade to this all digital version of the same product, except this one allows you to record a wakeup sound youd like to wake up to as well as the ones programed on it. On the road never worry about hotel noises with white noise.
Best Things are in Small Packages
This is the second Sharper Image Travel Sound Machine that Ive had. Although I loved the first, and used it for years, this one is better. Slimmer, and thus easier to fit on my night table, and darker, so that it blends with the bamboo, are characteristics that I appreciate, but which are secondary. More important, the time numerals are bigger, and it is considerably easier to set. But most of all, it seems tailored to my lifestyle. I have to get up twice during the night, and using both the "home" alarm and the "travel" alarm by simply touching one button makes this little machine made for me. I have also used a white noise souned blocker for decades(at first to eliminate the street noises of NYC) and really appreciate the variety of truly soothing sounds over just white noise that both of your products have offered. If there were a radio, it would be even more perfect, but then that is inherently impossible!
Pretty much just what I wanted
Previous travel sound device (also from Sharper Image, years ago) finally "died." Researched for a substitute, and this was the closest. Only disappointment so far is that it doesnt have "Yosemite Falls" among its sound selections, which was our favorite.
Perfect for our needs
We had an earlier model of this machine from Sharper Image, and it worked perfectly for around fifteen years. When it recently stopped working reliably, we did a travel sound machine product search and found that the reviews for the Sharper Image were the best. We just took it on a trip, and it worked wonderfully as expected. We only use the white noise setting, but are tempted to try others. On our most recent trip, my flight was delayed and I had to, unexpectedly, stay at an airport motel. My travel machine was already in luggage on the way to my final destination, and unfortunately--although I was able to get some white noise from the motel room fan--my sleep was definitely not as good as it would have been, if I had my travel machine with me.
Love this improved version
The two best features of this machine are not mentioned in the online item description. First, it runs on dual wattage, so can be used for travel overseas. Also, you can leave the batteries in it while operating on electricity, so it is not necessary to remove them when changing from battery power to electric. This is a smaller improved model of a previous model and I like this one much better. It is lighter and smaller. It also has a sound called Jet Lag, which is a combination of nature, music, and unidentified sounds designed for relaxation and resetting your inner clock. Dual time is also a plus and very easy to change.
Good Sound Machine
We have used a sound machine at home that we purchased from Sharper Image about 20 years ago. It has worked like a champ but it is starting to develope some issues. So...we purchased this sound machine for our travels and also for at home when our old one finally quits working. We hope the new sound machine works half as well as our first one.

This is my "everyday" alarm clock and I couldnt be happier with it! The sound is delightful (I like the "Asian Garden" sound best) and the controls are easy to operate. Everything is quite intuitive. I looked at a large number of clocks online and they all had pretty high negative ratings. I finally found this that people liked and I can sure see why. I run it entirely on batteries and the batteries seem to last a long time. (It does have an AC cord you can use, but I dont like cords all over so I stick to the battery option....)
One thing thats nice is that the sound starts more quietly and increases, so you dont get jolted out of a sound sleep. Also, the light comes on (a gentle, blue light) too, and that sometimes is enough to awaken you.
All in all, a wonderful clock and very highly recommended!!

I use the ocean setting. I sleep wonderfully, better than I have in a long time. I like waking up to the bird sounds.
The alarm set buttons dont always work the first time, but that is a small price to pay for great sleep!

Perhaps it was my overall frame of mind the one time I utilized this item which kept me awake a good portion of the night. I never wanted to try it again. The sounds generated did not drown the noise of cars in the street. I lay in bed thinking I would eventually fall asleep and wound up simply losing sleep. Not a great purchase for me.

I loved this!
I used this sound machine ever night for over eight years. It was the BEST machine I have seen! It lasted through my high school year, moving to college, traveling around countries, and a few more moves from dorm to dorm. It actually died a month after a friend of mine spilled water all over it. I would recommend this to anyone! My favorite sound is Asian garden, its always relaxing.

Volume control is not useful. Hard to regulate either too high or too low. Not user friendly. The old one is.,I would suggest that you get some more innovative sounds. E.g. More zen noises. More relaxing noises.
Great product
Our last Sound Machine went kaput when my husband tried to plug it into an outlet in Madrid. This new machine comes with a set of plugs compatible with most countries, so that wont happen again. We use this every night, at home or away, to mask out all that noise that keeps you awake at night. From train whistles to banging doors, this is a travelers best friend. Highly recommended.
Genius Design
I had an earlier Sharper Image sound machine, but its over 10 years old. This new model is even better.
There are more soothing sounds, and the design is impressive. The electrical plug comes with quick-fit adaptors for in-wall connection throughout the world (the transformer automatically switches voltage), yet you can use just battery power if you choose. The controls on the unit are intuitive and well-labeled. A terrific new feature is the lock-unlock switch on the back, which ensures your settings are not inadvertently changed.
I was so enthusiastic that I took the box to my local travel store and told them they should carry the Travel Sound Machine. It is remarkable!

I am a flight attendant and I need to sleep with "white noise" to either drown out noise from hotels or quietness. I like that you can use ear plugs for this sound machine and that is the way I use it the most. Its perfect for my lifestyle and being in different hotels a few days a week.

I need noise to sleep so I bought this item. The setting of alarm is little complicated but go figure Im blonde....lol just kidding...dont forget what color my roots are. Seriously, there needs to be a case that holds both machine and electrical cord.

I have been in themilitary for 20 years and travel extensively. Without this, I would not get restful sleep ever. So much so, that when I doze off, I will wake up from the obvious silence that is my missing "RAIN". The bad news is that I have used this so many years that when it rains out (especially a particularly heavy one), I am automatically lethargic and sleepy. :) Classical conditioning works! LOL. I recommend this to anyone that is a light sleeper or travels. It takes only a few nights to get used to the ongoing sound, then it is slumber-city!! LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! :)

This sound machine has really come in handy for hotel stays when background noises need to be blocked out. I especially like the "cooling fan" sound. My travel sleep has improved since purchasing this product.

The original Sharper Image sound machine/radio had a lot more volume then this sound machine only model. Turned all the way up, it provides just enough sound to block noises but I would have expected a louder model
Great product
I purchased this product because I have a hard time sleeping without sound in the background which made sleeping while traveling difficult. This product has several different sound choices to choose from. It also includes a clock with alarm. Its perfect for me.
Sound and Light
Good product, but two big negatives -
1) the blue clock background is very bright in a dark room.
2) the highest volume is not loud enough to drown out some average noises.
That said, it was a constant sound without blips or squawks and I think we will use it quite a bit.

I have one of the original Sharper Image Sound machines. Which I love! I wanted a small one for traveling instead of packing the original. The volume on the travel machine was totally inadequate. It didnt go loud enough. For [$] this should not be a factor. Unfortunately, Ill continue to pack my good old original and send this one back.
