Undeserved bad reviews
I was going to buy a Kindle DX for much more money. Literati came on sale for an outstanding price. I wasnt going to buy the Literati for my wife because of the many negative review I had seen. The price was just too good to pass up. The literati so far has been outstanding.
The tech support has been fantastic. They have been patient and knowledgeble. Im technicly slow so my calls to tech support was because I didnt think.
After you get connected to Wifi(which was not that hard) you have to upgrade the software which is almost automatic. The only thing to remember is after downloading software upgrade for the first time you have to check again for more new upgrade.
There are many extras that other readers dont have. One is the night reading mode which gives you white print on black background. My wife has a eye condition which makes this mode easier for her to read.
I was afraid the Literati would be a lemon and instead I got great lemonade. Right now the only bad thing I have to say abou
Invest in a nook or kindle
When I called user support they offered no assistance to the USB problem other than purchasing an SD card or to connect to Wifi and purchase books. If you want to get ebooks from your library, dont buy this product at least until the USB/Windows 7 kink gets figured out.
Love It!
I received the Literati as a Christmas gift. I love it! I do wish the paging arrows were luminous at night. I was reading while my grandson was asleep not wanting to turn on the light. The screen was great, but a little hard to know where to turn the page. I think it will be great for traveling. I do wish the battery lasted a little longer. I am buying one on sale at a great price for my DIL.
Literati
LOVE! My new Literati! My husband just gave it to me as a gift. I was pretty leary with the idea of a E-reader at first, but was pleasantly surprised with the Literati! Very easy to use, its lightweight and the color screen is very cool.
Disappointing
I bought this device primarily to be able to take .PDF and .epub documents with me on the go. Only after I got it did I discover that the "drag and drop" feature to load e-books from other sources than the integrated KOBO store doesnt work correctly, and there is virtually no customer support for this device. I could also not access PDF files stored on an SD card the way that the manual claims. When I connect the device to my computer via USB, I can load the files into the device memory or the SD card, but nothing I do can get the device to recognize the files are there - neither the "books" tab nor the "docs" tab show the files on the device, even though they show up in the Windows 7 explorer window as being in the device.
The manual says that I can use "drag and drop," Adobe digital editions, or Calibre to load files onto the Literati, but none of these methods seem to work. The device doesnt seem to recognize the existence of any files that arent loaded via the KOBO store.
I called the KOBO suppor
a nice little gadget
i have tried to get this gadget going for three weeks. [...] when i connect to wifi it does nothing that it is supposed to do. it does not update. and when i plug in the usb cable my computer does not recognize it. also the books it offers for free seem to be all fiction like the other lady said in one of the comments that teens would read in high school. the price was terrific but unfortunately it does not do what it is supposed to im glad the some of the people were able to get it working the dictionary is nice and it works.
Not Happy
I purchased the Literati expecting much more that I got. I do like the color display. I thought I would be able to buy ebooks from more than one source including checking out from the public library which I am unable to do. I was also disappointed Kobo books did not carry a collection of the most popular versions of the Holy Bible. I have had this device two days and thinking about returning it for an ereader that offers more options. Also it has jammed up on me several times when it was plugged into my laptop.
Love to read
I love my new e-reader. I hope that I can find a screen saver for it. I carry it in my purse in a carrying case and its a little heavy. Other than that, its perfect!
Takes time and patience.
I got this as a Christmas Gift and @ first had difficulty getting it to work with my computer. After that it worked fine and I was able to do download a book from a popular online bookstore and add it to my Literati. PDF books that i had previously downloaded to my computer went under the "documents" section rather than with my other books. Battery life with wi-fi isnt very long and i havent yet tried to use it without.
Wish there was a power adapter/charger for when I am traveling in the car. Other than that so far it seems good.
Horrible Piece of Junk
Im throwing this garbage in the trash. Not only can I not go to the online store with it hooked up to WiFi, but I cant use the Kobo Desktop App and drag books to my literati. It says there is an error. I called Customer Service and the first guy told me that as of right now you have to access your books through the store on WiFi because it doesnt support Kobo desktop. I called again, and the second guy said that I had to do the required updates on Literati when I hook it up to WiFi (it should automatically tell you that you have to update) in order to access the desktop app to add books. Well, I hook up to WiFi and it wont find any automatic updates, and there isnt an option to make it find them. Im SO disappointed in this garbage.
I like my Literati!
I use my Literati every night. I love the back lighting for reading while my husband is sleeping. Turning "pages" is so easy. I also like the different font size options, the 7 different brightness settings, the bookmark that opens right to my page. The ONLY thing that I wish were different, is that when I first turn it on, it is slow to load my book, but once loaded it moves right along. I guess that the dictionary though slow is a nice feature.
Love the color screen
Its great at home or while flying from city to city . I didnt read the best reviews about this product but of what Ive seen so far , I like it
first
This is my first "e-reader". It was suggested to my by my daughter and I must say the "150 free books" was one of the hooks for me to purchase this one. However, I was greatly disappointed in the list of books I was able to choose from and have not downloaded any of the free books. I didnt think the books would be from the top 10 list, but I thought they would at least be current books, or popular books, not books that were the required reading when I was in junior high school in the 60s. Very disappointed. Also, when I tried to sync the Literati to my lap top i recieved the error message that the devise was damaged and I can not connect with my lap top. When I am telling others about the Literati I do let them know it is worth the price, but the "150 free books" is a disappointment and joke.
Love it
I wanted an ereader, my best friend and I had it down to the Nook. But when I saw this on sale I fell in love with it. The color screen is great. Very nice for reading in bed. Only thing I dont like about it: its hard to download your books online.
one in white seems to be upgrade version
white model definitely improved model, sleeker better buttons especially power ,faster page turns. nice product battery life could be better.downloaded kjv bible and couldnt scroll on any 1 subject in versus or index that were highlighted and underlined only chapters. was told only in dictionary does that function work, so that was dissapointing.
#1: get updates wirelessly!
[...]Now, the bottom line is -- and this is what the Quick-Start Guide should tell you right off the bat: the only thing you can do with the Literati is read the built-in 25 books unless and until you:1) Charge it for six hours;2) Go to a wireless hot spot;3) Turn it on, enable wireless, and sign in;4) Get two firmware updates, a small one, then a large one. Also, you should hook it up to your computer with the USB cord (whereupon youll get a new disk drive like E:) find the desktop-app installer on that drive, install and run the desktop app on your computer, and let the app update too.But the app STILL wont sync with the Literati, even though the app now recognizes the Literati is there! Good features but minor kinks
PROSMy wife bought my literati for [$] from [...] and then received a $20 mail-in rebate. This is a great device when considering it was only [$]. The color screen is great and it is easy to navigate. The reading experience is great. Page turning is quick and seamless. It is easy to read at night since the backlight and fonts are adjustable. CONS/LIMITATIONSI have found a few kinks. For one, the battery life does not compare well to other readers due to the LCD color screen. The technical support states that it can last up to 7 hours if reading with the wireless turned off. In reality, that is comparable to the $250 Nook Color that claims 8 hours of battery life. However, I do not find this device to be ideal if you want to download daily periodicals. I have also had some trouble with the wireless access. Once the device battery is below 30%, it will not let you access WiFi. However, I have had an issue with it shutting my wireless off even when the battery is charged. Usually, I can reset the device and the
LOVE the color screen!!
Ive used the Kindle for a couple years now, and I think this Literati is a great device! The bookstore is easy to navigate, the screen is bright and sharp, AND COLOR!! Not much content yet but what Ive viewed looks great. Best thing is it works flawlessly and page turns are very fast. Overall great reading experience on this device.
Great product!
I research several ereaders before I settled on this one. It is a great product, but like everything else, it has its downfalls. Agreeing with ALL other post about the short battery life for sure. Downloading for the first time from home computer was VERY difficult. Hopefully next will be easier. Hard to pick up WIFI even at home where WIFI should be easiest. Cannot get it to connect. One thing I would love on this literati is lighted keys for the night reading. Another thing, my page turning touch arrows contantly stop working. Have to reset often to turn them back on. ALL IN ALL, A GREAT PRODUCT!
Great for the Holidays!
I received this as a gift from my family and I cannot put it down!It is so easy to read because of its adjustable brightness and font. I love reading classic books all the way to bestsellers! The Literati has such a large variety of books. It has over 2 million books to choose from! The biggest thing I love about this is the vivid color! Other Ereaders cost the same, are in black and white. The Literati is cheaper and is in equal quality as other big name Ereaders. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who knows an avid reader to buy this for him or her during the holidays!
Great little machine!
Got the product as a Christmas gift. It works awesome. I am able to get books from pretty much any source including the library. Check your local library online because most of them have ebooks that you can check out. I downloaded a couple and bought one from Kobo. ALL the books installed on the machine slick as can be. I have already read two of them and counting. The machine does have bookmarks and you are able to adjust the size of the font...also the screen can be adjusted for night reading. Shut off the wi-fi and youll get a lot more time out of your battery.
Having Issues
Having issues getting books off the ereader. Delete and when I power up, they show up again and again. Then I have to page through books Ive already read to get them off the "Im Reading" section. USB cable supplied with ereader isnt recognized by my laptop, newer laptop. Kobo doesnt respond to my emails with answers to questions. Didnt have any problems getting Wi Fi going, but really need answers to issues with ereader.
Very Happy.
I actually like this product, even though it isnt anywhere as nice as a Nook Color (Barnes and Nobles E-reader), It was less expensive (like 1 1/2 times less expensive). Since price was a BIGGIE for me, I can overcome much of the other slight disadvantages such as battery life, and availability of product from Sharper Images source. The readability is actually very good, and I cant complain, because everything I wanted to add to my SD card worked flawlessly on the Literati. When I tried to install my first PDFs, it locked up. But the second time everything went quickly. I havent used it long enough to get a feel for the battery life yet, but time will tell. Some comments say 7 hours. I turned the brightness to the lowest level, which is quite adequate for my weak eyes..., and hope I can do better than 7 hours. Otherwise, I personally feel this is the E-reader to beat. All the others may be just great, but I looked, and compared, and decided for my use, the color screen of the Literati was a BEST BUY.
I love it!
What a delightful surprise! It has a vivid, sharp screen and you can read in the dark without additional lighting. It also has a slot to add memory through an SD card. I havent watched a movie on it yet but it has the capability. It has all the literary classics free and the Kobo shop site is every bit as accessible as the [...] is to the Nook. The best difference is the keyboard. I am really pleased with it. We were shopping for the color Nook but were pleasantly surprised at something less expensive and easily equal quality.
Worst electronic device I have ever seen
The worst is trying to navigate with those tiny buttons. Also, having downloaded a book, it is nowhere to be seen and is "locked" and I cant read it. More trouble than it is worth.
Awesome E-reader!
I love the Literati - it is so simple to use. My favorite feature compared to the other e-readers...the fact that is does not blink repeatedly before changing the page. I have not had any issues with the device, I only wish there were accessories to purchase such as a silicone or neoprene cases. In regards to the battery life - the only time it has had a short life is when the wireless feature is activated, as with any electronic with wireless capabilities.
eReader
Great for reading in bed with the night vision.
Small enough to travel with but big enough screen to enjoy using it. Love the color and dictionary.
NICE !!!!!
its nice i dont know how to delete books of it though
Love it!!
I love this item! Great size, nice color screen, and easy to use!!
Amazing
This product is awesome. I love it! But the only problem about it is Kobo. The company doesnt accept giftcards only credit cards. And my family doesnt use credit cards so I cant get books. I dont blame the reader I blame the company.
Not for my money
not worth it, kindle is superior
Love this reader
I received this for Christmas and this product is great. There are two drawbacks though. I dont have Wi-Fi at home so I have to find a free WiFi spot in order to download books ordered from kobo. Also it is extremely difficult to install books purchased from any web-site other than kobo. If these two things could be changed youd have an outstanding product!
