Good Price for a Very Good Product
Sounds are very good, better than most as far as being realistic and there is a wide variety. The clock display is easily read and bright without being blindingly so. I wish the display didnt show the alarm times though, the display is a little "busy" with all the info. on it.

Great while it lasted
Received as Christmas gift. Loved the sound feature. However about a month and a half after having it the sounds quit working. Not sure how long the rest of the features will hold out.
Great Product except for volume control
The only issue I have with this is that it is too loud. I would like to

No More Sleep Deprivation!

I have owned may white noise machines in the past most were homeidcs. I knew homeidcs was the best for making sound machines so i was unsure about this. I love it way better than any sound machine i ever owned. i listen to white noise at night and cant chose what sound i want to listen to during the day. Great white noise machine
Not for me!
I returned mine and am still waiting for my credit. The volume only goes down to a certain level. I think it should be able to go lower and even to where you cant hear it, etc. Anyway, low wasnt low enough for me at times. Also the controls are hard to work in the dark. They need to be more visible from a lying position and if they lit up ~ that would be even better!! :)))
Does what we hoped for
Its SO quiet where we live that we use this to achieve a deeper sleep by having a steady sound in the background.
What a piece!
Sounds are not soothing AT ALL. It sounds very digital. For the white noise you would be better off putting your television on a channel you dont get and falling asleedp to that!
Sound Machine
First and foremost, I sleep much better with a sound machine. My favorite sounds are frogs or crickets, thus Everglade is perfect.
We did find the controls a bit convoluted and difficult to manipulate. The instruction manual was missing some key words for set-up, but we did figure them out. Still and all, the buttons are hard to push and keep down for set up purposes.

Very rested and refreshed
A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED
The alarm is great, wind chimes are the best way to wake up after years of grating phone alarms,it looks good also but my main complaint/disappointment was with the "rain" setting - it has very annoying and repetitive "chirps" included like a bird or something - VERY ANNOYING! Also, I find the surf and thunderstorm setting too short in the rolls of the waves and thunder..its almost like the machine is in a hurry to blurt them out - the previous similar sounds downloadable on I-Tunes for example have a much longer loop and seem to "roll" in a longer more irregular sequence. It does OK but i just hoped for better..I feel the engineers just got lazy, programmed a very short loop and said "were done" and then went home without giving it much more thought...oh well...
Near Perfection
I love my new sound machine. I particularly like the thunderstorm. Now to make things absolutely perfect for me, I must purchase two more sound machines; rain and wind chimes. Then it will sound like a thunderstorm with the wind chimes whipping around in the wind and rain. Thats the way it sounds when we get a good thunderstorm here and I crack my window so I can hear the wind chimes around the house and in the trees. Turning the machine on its face eliminates the too bright light. I will find a piece of tinted film to fix that.
Not bad, but has some problems
So many people like this, I wonder if mine is defective? Overall I like this, but it has a few annoying problems: 1) The lowest sound setting is way too loud. When it is night and quiet and your head is four feet away from it, it is way too loud and cant be turned down any further. I have to use a towel to muffle the speakers. 2) The power supply that comes with it is of such poor quality, that an annoying hum comes from the speakers when you play a sound. I replaced it with a good quality power supply, and the humming is now gone. Maybe the one that came with mine is defective? 3) The sounds loop after only ten seconds or so. For some sounds this is OK, but it makes many of them unusable because they repeat so quickly. So after replacing the power supply and using a towel to muffle it because it is so loud, I am able to use it. I like the north forest or summer sounds settings. Those are real nice to sleep with. The rain doesnt sound like rain. Ebb tide is also very nice.
Bought to help with snoring
The variety of sounds available with this machine are great! I especially like the white noise option. When falling asleep, you can tell that the sound is looping for a few choices in particular, but it seems to help lull me to sleep. My biggest con is that the display is quite bright (I have to cover it when the lights are off) and the lowest volume settings are too loud. I bought the machine to mask my partners snoring and the white noise seems to work best for this. Would definitely recommend to others!

My only (minor) complaint is that setting the alarm could be a little easier. You must be careful about selecting "everyday", "weekend" or "weekday."
Great features, great gift.
This was a Christmas present for my husband. Hes been using the same alarm clock from college and complaining about it! I got him this because we sometimes can hear our neighbors television and it makes it hard for him to fall asleep. He really likes that he can wake up to any of the sounds. He usually uses the fog horns! The timer feature is nice and its also nice that you can have 2 alarms set and use 2 different sounds for each alarm. There is no radio but he really doesnt miss it. I think the different sounds get used more than the radio on his old alarm clock ever did. I shopped around when I was looking for an alarm clock and for the price and features you cant beat it. Others have some of the soothing sounds but not 20 like this one. It was a great buy and a perfect gift for us!
Too bright to sleep
Unfortunately, the only time the lighted front goes off is when you pull the plug. Although you can set it to three different brightnesses, even the lowest setting is quite bright, and interfered with my sleep. If that were fixed, Id rate it four stars. Not five because its larger than I expected, and about three times the size of the Brookstone sound machine I currently have. And the instructions stress the batteries are for backup of the settings only, which makes it awkward to use for travel, which was the reason I bought it.
Sound Soother White Noise machine
I am really enjoying and benefitting from the machine. Its drowning out the noises that keep me awake or awaken me and I sleep better.
Im still trying to adjust to hearing the noise all night long. Lately Ive been setting the noise timer for an hour. I wanted to have it all night long due to a randomly screaming baby upstairs from me, but I found that white noise would wake me up too early in the morning.
Its like I was sound asleep and dreaming hard all night and all morning and then suddenly the white noise was waking me up at 5:00 or 5:30. Too early for me, so I now use the timer for an hour only. I may still try to sleep with it all night, it depends on screaming babies. *eyeroll*
My only small complaint is that the clock light, even at its lowest setting is too bright. I resolved that by turning the clock to face away from me 180 degrees. It kind of defeats the purpose of having the clock, but I still love the noise machine.
Soothing sounds fit the bill
I originally purchased the sound soother for my daughter, who developed tinnitus after ear surgery and thought the different sounds would help her sleep. However, I ended up keeping it for my own use when my alarm clock quick working. I love all the different sounds I can choose from to listen to, and my cats go crazy when they hear the birds chirping, so it has been an amusing as well as useful product. I do wish the number display was different as the numbers seem faint no matter what adjustment I make, but they are certainly bright and large enough for me to read from across the room. I love falling asleep to different sounds and the alarm is quite easy to use, much easier than what I previously had.
Dissapointed
We have five pets, so the idea of sleeping soundly through the night was really appealing. The Sound Soother lets you preview the 20 sounds on the web, which is why we chose it. However, 10 out of 20 sounds dont work. Given that, I have no faith in the reliability of the rest of the functions. We ordered 3 products from Sharper Image and all three are from China. I would be willing to pay more for American made products if I could find them.
Very nice
Although the relatively high price made me hesitate, so far Im very happy with this clock. The quality of the sounds is good, unlike most nature sound machines. It offers a great assortment of sounds, and it was nice to be able to try them out on the website. The clock is easy to use. I like the dual alarms. The main display shows the alarm time and whether or not the alarm is turned on. One button push turns the alarm off and on. Improvements Id like to see on this clock-- a dimmer display setting or red/orange display. Even on "Low", the display is bright enough to cause a glow in a dark room. A piece of static-cling window tint took care of this problem. Id love it if the nature sounds faded off and on for an even gentler waking. Overall, however, Id recommend this clock.

My husband and i bought this item for our son. He needs noise when he sleeps. He is now 1 1/2 and we have searched for a good enough sound machine for him but couldnt find one. All of the other machine we looked at or purchased were too quiet. But this sound machine is seriously awesome. We love it mainly because it is the loudest one we have ever found and we can choose from several different noises. We are actually going to buy another one for our room as well.
THE TV is OFF!
My husband actually requested a sound machine for a gift. Researching the options led to choosing this machine as the best value. Using it has helped him turn off the TV, which used to stay on all night for ambient noise.
Love it
I bought a similar machine off of [@] less than a year ago. Compared to what I purchased then, this has more sound options, a clock (I think works as alarm clock too, but I use phone and havent tried it), is smaller, and cost 1/2 of what I paid for the last unit. Im very happy with this buy.
"Much more than I expected"

A good nights sleep
I love the rain sound and use it every night. It puts me to sleep within minutes. The TV is now off and the room is dark. Im getting 7 to 8 hours of good sleep.
Puts me to sleep
When I cant sleep, I put my earbuds in and listen to this before bed. When its time to fall asleep, I set the timer for an hour. Im always asleep long before the timer went off. I love it--Ive gained hours of sleep.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Sound Soother!
I use the Sound Soother when I go to bed at night. I start reading and the background sound is very soothing and cozy. I thought that I would get up in the middle of the night and shut it off, but I love hearing the rain, or ocean tide, or the northwoods so I leave it on all night. Im sorry it took so long for me to buy this product. The only thing that I found difficult was setting the clock and alarm. I mean I figured it out, but that should be easier than it is.
Nice, realistic sounds
I have a difficult time staying asleep. Every thing seems to wake me up, so I run a fan for white noise but wanted something more. I had a sound machine alarm clock and needed a new one.
I was looking for a clock with two seperate alarms, which this has. I also wanted sounds to fall asleep to with a timed shutoff. This shuts off after 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes or stays on.
I like the variety of sounds, there are 20 of them, too. They sound realistic, not canned. I wish there was more control over the volume. The difference between vol setting 1 and 2 is significant. 1 is too low and 2 is too loud.
This clock is backlight which ultimately is not a good thing. The LCD numbers are nice and clear, but the backlight is extremely bright. There is a switch on the back for low and high light, but low is still very bright. The first few nights I woke up and needed to put the clock face down because it lit the room up. It is sometimes difficult to see the numbers well because the backlight and the display numbers
Newer isnt better
I was pretty disappointed with my new Sound Soother. I have an OLD one that Ive probably had for close to 30 years and Ive loved it from the first day, but it started getting very static-y in recent years. The old one had AM/FM radio and an alarm that ramps up. This is a very important feature for me because I HATE being jolted out of sleep. The radio alarm would come on gradually and nudge me awake. This new Sound Soother doesnt even have a radio and the alarm is annoying. Also, there is too much of a leap in volume between settings. One setting might not be loud enough, but the next one is too loud. The old one had a knob control, so you could choose any volume, the new one has a button you press with a pre-set volume for each level. Bring back the old features, please.
back ground buzzing is distracting
The concept is sound and some of the noises are quite pleasant but I have not found it helpful for my sleep. I had hoped to use it to drown out my husbands snoring but all I can hear is the buzzing. If I were not so busy I would probably return it.
Sleeping Soundly Now
The Sharper Image Sound Soother is exactly what I needed to block out neighbors noise through thin apartment walls. It really has made a big difference in my ability to fall asleep and stay asleep.
Great Gift
I gave this to my brother for his birthday. He has a lot of trouble falling asleep. I wanted one that wasnt for babies, and had a wide chioces of sounds to listen to. He loves it. He said he fell asleep the first night with it within 15 minutes. He likes to switch the sounds around a bit, but says northwoods is his favorite.
An End to Insomnia
I bought this Sound Soother specifically for sound #17, "Surfs Up." I grew up on the beach and always slept really well with the sound of the surf at night. This reproduces it seamlessly, allowing me to drift off and STAY asleep for the first time in years. Some early mornings I switch it to "Thunderstorm" and am always surprised to find it isnt raining when I wake up. I liked it so much I bought another for the room where I keep my birds, entertaining them with "Aviary" and "Rainforest." The abillity to preview each of the sounds on the Sharper Image site was the major factor in securing my purchase.
Could have better sounds
Too bulky to take with on a trip. If youre into listening to Thunderstorms, you wont be impressed. I had one sound machine that was awesome but I cant find another made by the same company. The babbling brook is about it for me on this that actually distracts me enough to sleep. The others are just plain distracting because they sound fake, choppy and otherwise make you focus on the sound instead of complementing and blocking out other sounds (like noisy neighbors). Im keeping it for the large blue display for the clock that is great at night, but not for the sounds for which I bought it.
Description is incomplete
I bought this product hoping that it would provide some soothing white noise and help me get to sleep. On turning it on I discovered several problems as follows:-
There is no sleep timer, so it would have to be on all night.
The volume control does not lower the sound sufficiently.
The display on lowest setting is too bright.
The sound quality is tinny and not realistic.
worth the money
Product is near perfect EXCEPT the volume control. On 1, it is too low, on 2 it is too loud unless you move the thing 6-8 ft away (which is hard on nightstands!)
Bought and Returned
This sound machine looks very nice, but thats about it. There are three things that bugged me:
1. The light displayed is toooooo bright at night even on the lowest setting. It felt that that I was living next to a power plant.
2. There was a noticable "buzzing" sound in the back ground no matter which setting I tried. I noticed the brighter the display, the louder the buzzing sound. Very very annoying
3. The volume buttons were not ideal. Meaning: volume 1 was too low, volume 2 was too high, volumes 3 and above were just plain rediculous to be used at night. A rotating knob to adjust the volume would of been much better.
Perfect & a Great Value
Have used several noise generators for sleeping, even a couple from Sharper Image that were good units, but much more expensive. None perform better than the Sound Soother 20 at half the cost. It is simple to use, sound is clear, plenty of volume control, 3 different light settings, and even small enough to take on trips, which we will do. Mostly used for sleeping, but the chimes setting is pleasant and random enough to play softly as background noise while awake. Best value in a white noise generator weve found.
Very good
This product is GREAT, in general, but has just a bit of room for improvement. The display is quite bright, and there should be a way to dim...but there is not. Also, the audio/volume settings advance by fixed units, so (for me at least) it goes from being a bit too quiet to just a bit too loud. Despite these minor failings, it this product is still an excellent value for the money. The variety of sound options, the multiple alarm settings, and the sound quality are all superior. I would buy it again, but wouldl buy more for other parts of the house if it were just a bit better. ;)
Love it!
I love this sound machine. Especially the summer night sounds and the woods sounds. The wind chimes are great, too. I like that it has a clock and alarm. The only thing I dont like is that there is too much difference in the sound levels between levels 1 and 2. Level 1 is really quiet and level 2 is quite a bit louder. I would definitely buy it again.

This particular machine is cumbersome to set and if it is accidently unplugged you have to start all over. I would buy a "better" machine if I known.
Much Better at Almost 1/2 the Price
My Wife & I cannot sleep without sound in the background. We purchased another brand for nearly twice the price and it stopped working after a year. A small detail, but being able to turn the clock & alarm time back as well as forward saves aggravation when you need to awake 15 minutes earlier some mornings.
The buttons are loud when pushing in the
It wasnt clear on how to listen to the difference sounds, I had to call the company. 2nd of all when pushing the buttons late at night its very noisey.
1st you have to push the power button, then you have to push the mins 4 times to get to 60 mins. The 60 mins doesnt stay so each time you have to reprogram it.
So in the middle of the night I am pushing 1 button for power and 4 times for 60 mins. Kind of loud when your mate is trying to sleep.
It Works
We live in the city and sometimes the noise is insane. This helps. The only problems is the light is to bright even on low and the timer could go for a couple of hours instead of just 60 minutes.
Awesome and sleek!
I bought this for my mom who wanted something to help lul her to sleep and it has done its job. She loves it!!! So much so that she is constantly bragging about it to others and then directs them to me so I can tell them where I got it. The sounds quality is excellent. The only thing that would have made this better is if it would have had a radio built in....then it would have been perfect!

The White Noise Machine is Wonderful
This was a gift for my twenty-something daughter. She was actually using a box fan in her room (even in the winter!) to create white noise in order to sleep. She now uses the white noise machine faithfully, enjoying the sounds of nature to sooth her to sleep. The fan in back in storage! Thank you.
Great sound machine
I find this sound machine to be a great value. It provides enough different sounds that everyone can find a sound they like. I also like that it has a timer so the sound will play up to an nour and then turn itself off. This machine works very well to block out noises and provide a soothing sound to fall asleep to at a reasonable cost.

this gift was perfect after a hard days work i come home to relaxation to calm my nerves or put me to bed and my favorite is the Thunderstorm settings.

The songs are great but only need to use the quietest setting possible and then you can still hear Static/or White noise in the background. i dont know if this is a faulty speaker.

Its ok
This was the closest to what I had years ago, from Sharper Image. It does not have the Yosemite Falls sound. I only use it in my office as it is too big for me to travel with.
I do like the brightness of the time and date.
Overall, its just so-so.
A Quality Product
I bought this alarm clock/white noise machine for a gift for my hubby and he absolutely loves it. I was originally looking tinto just a white noise machine but a separate alarm clock just cluttered his nightstand. This slim design, dual purpose unit is perfect. My husband loves all the choices of sounds and being able to dim the display. It was a very easy set up. We both have been very pleased.
A Soother with some Shortcomings
I bought two of these-- one for myself and another one to give a friend for Christmas. Ive had several "sound machines" for the bedside over the years. The sounds from this one are much like the others, distinctly artificial and repetitive in tone and pattern. The controls to set alarm and time are a bit fussy. Setting the volume is a "stepped" process--the volume does not go up and down continuously but in increments, which means one level may be too low, the other too high. This device is OK, but not spectacular.

Sound Soother so soothing cant hear it
The Sound Soother Alarm Clock is a very good idea for those who have difficulty falling asleep, only if the 20 various sounds would work. The clock & alarm are very easy to set. Is a sleek & attractive clock. Just cant get the sounds to work.

Great help for light sleepers
I bought this unit to replace a clock radio. Much more compact, easier to see the clock and alarm/sound settings. Twenty sounds and many adjustments for volume and light make this a very versatile unit.
Well worth the effort
We use this product to block out peeping toms listening at the window - true story. As a side note plus, the various sounds are very relaxing in the evening or when you are a bit stressed out.
Great product
This is the best sound machine and clock I have ever purchased for the bedroom. It has controls to adjust the lighting which is nice and then comes with 20 different sounds in order to fall asleep. I change to a different sound every night. Although not as small as travel alarms, I still find it small and sleek enough to be able to pack in my suitcase.
A fantastic product!
I have used the sound machine every night since I received it. I love the variety of sound choices and the fact that I can set it on a sleep timer if I choose to. I havent found anything I dont like about it. I plan to purchase another to give as a gift.
Up the decibel range for Tinnitus users
I hva Tinnitus and use sound machines to block out the internal sounds that ocurr with this syndrome. Yhe sound machinr nrrds to have an increase in DB range to allow the listener to block the inner sounds /noises that come with Tinnitus. Not loud enough !!!!
Not so sure...
I gave this to my mother for Christmas two years ago. I just came back from visiting her on the East Coast and it was still in the box, sitting in the rear of her van. She let me use it while staying with her for 2 months. I had the machine on its lowest setting and it was much too loud. If I could dial the volume to my needs, itd be the perfect machine. Like others I had to muffel it with a towel or washcloth to get it lower.. too bad. Im looking to buy a machine for myself right now and would love to have this machine, if only I could control the volume...too bad...
THE REAL DEAL!!!
I live only two miles from a beautiful beach and never heard such great surf sounds before now! This was given to me as a gift and I was originally skeptical but this is so much better than sunburns and sand to hear the surf! Thank you!
Designer is an Idiot
Whoever designed this is a moron. You cant continously sleep/listen to one of the sound settings AND set the alarm to a sound setting. So, if you sleep through the night to say..."white noise", you have only one choice for the alarm-the obnoxious beep. The original Travel Soother let you sleep to any sound and set the alarm to any OTHER sound you wanted. Peaceful sleep to "white noise" and a nice light "chime" or "dockside" or whatever for the alarm.
The Sound Soother cant do this and therefore SUCKS.

"Just one glitch"
I was looking for a sound machine to drown out outside noises when I go to sleep. I use the "white noise" setting, but wished there was a "fan" sound as that appeals to me more. The glitch is that after I turn off the alarm, it continues to sound a soft beep for 1 minute. Weird??? They are replacing it with a new one for me, super easy.

INDISTINCT NOISE.....
I bought this for myself, as I use white noise to sleep. I thought this would be a good machine, and its ok, but the sounds all sound alike, kind of like static, and I can really tell when the clip/loop of sound runs and starts over again, the patterns are too obvious and my ears notice it instead of letting me sleep. The rain sounds like static, and a lot of the others sound like static, too.... they are murky and dont sound like they should. However the woodsy-sound, with the crickets chirping does sound authentic. THe rest are just kind of muddy. But its a small machine and maybe I need something with a subwoofer...
Love this sound machine
I have the older version of the sound soother and have used it for years to duplicate the sound of the surf when I return from the islands. This year I bought 3 of the newer versions; one for my nursery and one for each of my two grandbabies. They love them and their Moms and Dads like the variety of sounds they can select. I think the quality of the sound is much better than other sound machines I have listened to.

Dreamland with Sound soother

Time is very hard to set.there has to be a better way of setting the time. DST does not work. It did not change time when we went on day light savings time. I like the sounds( some of them), but soft music would be even better.

The Sound Soother
I bought the Sound Soother to use as white noise for my children. It is a really great product and has lots of different sounds. We love it and every night they pick a sound based upon what they want to imagine as they fall asleep. The one thing that I will say is that there is a big difference in volume between each number. For example you can hardly hear the "1" but the "2" is kind of loud.

I am thrilled that I bought this product because it has really helped me with my sleeping problems. I often would stay awake all night and into the next afternoon before I dozed off. Now the soothing sounds like Brook, Rainstorm,etc, help me fall asleep right away into a deep sleep. I highly recommend this product!
We love this sound machine!
We recently purchased this sound machine to replace our floor fan. We have always used the fan for noise block only but have recently been having sinus problems so we thought that we would give the sound machine a try. We are really glad we did! All of the sounds are crystal clear and the clock works great. The light on the clock is bright enough to see but not bright enough to keep us awake. We like the thunderstorm, rain, oceanside, brook, and summers night.
Alarm sounds great-but no snooze!
I bought this alarm clock for my husband for Christmas--mainly drawn to the two alarms and the variety of sounds. Love the alarm-easy to set. But I am a snoozer and the snooze is very difficult to set. Most times, I think I hit the snooze but actually I have turned the alarm off. Not good...

Good functionality, but a few design flaws
The Sharper Image Sound Soother has a very sleek and modern design, however, there are a few flaws that detract from the overall experience. First, the digital display is very bright in a dark bedroom. Unlike a regular, cheap alarm clock where only the time is lit, the entire display of the Sound Soother is backlit. If your bedroom has little ambient light at night, this display will emit a glow that some people may find too bright. Although there are three display brightness settings, there is little difference between them and the lowest setting is still bright. We have to turn the clock away from the bed at night so its not directly in our face, but the glow is still significant. Second, the sound quality could be better. This could be a tradeoff for the sleek design, but the sounds are not very natural coming out of the small rear speakers and are a bit tinny as another reviewer has noted. omg bright light
Well, I fell in love with the clock the moment that I saw it. It had everything that I wanted, dual alrams, big display, soothing sounds. I love the look. The problem is, it is to bright. It lights up my whole room. I like it totally black when I sleep. It was too bright for me to sleep. I really want to keep it, but I cant sleep. I am going to try to put cellophane over the display to see if I can diffuse the light.
Great for drowning out noise
I use it to drown out noise when I go to sleep. Plus it helps keep me asleep. The sound quality isnt what Id hoped it would be (its no Bose) but its good enough and loud enough to do the job, which is to drown out noise. Theres a wide variety of sounds with it and the alarm and radio also work like they should. Overall Im happy with it.
Not exactly what I was hoping for...
I like the whole concept of this clock, but the volume settings just dont work for me. There is no happy medium. A setting of one you can barely hear and a setting of 2 is way loud. I had seen this issue on other reviews and wish I would have taken them to heart. Otherwise, I do like it!

Disappointed.
I was disappointed that the recorded noises (thunder, rain, ocean waves) were only short plays that looped back. It is NOT soothing to hear a very repetitious sound over and over and over -- rather than a longer recorded sound (which could be looped back again without too much notice). Since this was supposed be a soothing sound/sleep machine, it is too annoying to enjoy.

This is very nice looking product. This sound soother has helped me and my daughter tremendously. Both my daughter, age 18, and I both suffer from insomnia. Finally, we bought can sleep. There were many of nights that we both could not sleep. My favorite sound is "white noise", but there are so many sound options. Now, I no longer have to rely on taking any sleeping pills.

SOUND SOOTHER
I have to turn the unit away from me because even at the low setting it is too bright. I only wanted the white noise and found it to be harsh. I taped over the speaker holes several times with packing tape and made the sound acceptable. It is nice looking and if the other sound options were appealing they had a nice variety, however I only want to hear white noise.

As a light sleeper I awaken often upon hearing noises at night. I bought a competing brands unit (at three times the price), which failed and was replaced, and then failed again. After using a Sharper Image unit that was bedside in a hotel room in New Orleans, and enjoying wonderful sleep, I went to their website and found this unit. I had high expecations but was sadly disappointed. The sound was mechanical and not real. The clips of the sound repeated within a few seconds. It was distracting rather than relaxing.
Product wasnt for me.
The machine has great, realistic sounds, but in order to listen to them while going to sleep, I need it on low. So, then in order to use the alarm to wake, the volume is too low. I would like to to be able to listen to the sounds to sleep, and have a loud alarm. Also, the lowest back-light is too bright for sleeping, but if you put it on off, you cant press a button to find out what time it is, or see any of the features. It would be nice if you had the back-light off, if you pressed a button, it would light up.
Best Noise is White Noise
I use this product every night. Wonderful for blocking out any noise and enriching a nights sleep. It has a variety of sound selections(more than most white noise machines) and it is so compact and lightweight it takes up little room on your nightstand. Beyond satisfied.
Disappointing display
I bought this for the sound machine, I like the sound of a summers night and it worked wonderfully for my daughter when she was first born (I used the white noise). My only issue is that if I wanted to use it fo a regular clock I couldnt because the display does not stay lit. I had purchased one and thought that it was defective so exchanged it fo another and found the same issue. This should be fixed.

I use it in my skin care business and I am able to drown out noises from the neighboring rooms. My clients all love it. It is ok to play on its own or with other music from another source. It really makes a difference for my clients.

I purchased 3 of these machines. Two of them will be Christmas gifts. The other is for myself. I just opened the package today and ran through the manual and all the sounds. Allot of the sounds are water related. I dont think I will be listening to the Foghorn or the Traffic one, but many of the others out of 20 sounds will work for me. I do like the size. Very slim line and very light. Attractive design.
Sleep next to the ocean when youre not!
There are 20 different sounds - e. g. aviary, northwoods, surfs up - also, unusual sounds like steam engine, fog horns, city, and heart beat - which might be good if youre a E. A. Poe fan or a baby. The volume settings are easily controlled. No doubt the recordings are on a loop of some kind, but are not noticable. I havent set the alarm yet, but I understand you can sleep to one sound & have the alarm set to another. Very cool. I am considering buying another one for the guest room.

Bought for Toddlers nap time.
We bought this specifically for our toddlers naptime and it works perfectly!! Our older children come home from school during naptime and our toddler kept waking up too soon. A cranky toddler makes a cranky mama. The white noise blocks out their loud noises and she stays asleep! We turn it on through the night as well and she sleeps through the morning routine of getting ready for school until Im ready to wake her. (Thats a plus for the weekends when her parents still want to sleep in.)

I have had insomnia for over 30yrs and have never really felt comfortable prior to going to bed due to the fact of knowing how the night was going to end up. Meaning dead tired the next day. I do take medication to help me sleep, but one sound of noise and Im up. This sound machine defuses the thought of not being able to sleep right from the get go. I bought this for my husband. He has trouble sleeping at night and when we would go to our ocean retreat he could sleep all night while listening to the ocean. My wife & I like to listen to the sounds of waves, water running, & other soothing sounds when we go to bed. It helps us to relax. Sound Soother Alarm Clock
A friend had purchased the Sound Soother alarm clock a while ago and told me that she could even fall asleep to the sound of foghorns. I grew up 2 blocks from Lake Michigan and for years, the sound of the distant foghorn was always very calming and reassuring. I decided to buy the Sound Soother myself, specifically for the foghorn option. The clock has many other soothing options, and I have found several that I like to fall asleep and wake to. They sound as if Im right there in those settings. I will say that I was disappointed with the foghorn(s) because I had a pre-conceived idea that it would be soft and faint; there are actually 3 foghorns "competing for attention" and one is very loud and unsettling. I definitely dont use this option. In every other way, however, I am pleased with my purchase. I know Sharper Image makes quality products that last a long time. We are used to running the whole house fan at night and when we dont this machine is terrific. Just love the summer nights setting , all we do is turn it on and sleep very comfortably and soundly all night long.

Not bad; could be better
The Sound Soother is not a bad alarm clock. Its easy to set the alarm and the choice of sounds are reasonable. The biggest flaw is that there is no way to dim the lights beyond fairly bright. I prefer a very dark clock at night. And I was surprised that it didnt include an am/fm radio. But that oversight was my fault I guess. Overall, its a decent product.
Great way to quiet a busy office
We use the white sound to block out any noxious or interruptive noise from offices adjacent to our massage room. It is about 90% effective, and only fails when the ambient noise level gets very high.
BRIGHT
Love the features and it is super user friendly but holy cow, even on low illumination, the display is so bright it creates shadows in my room - on high I think I could read by the light of the display. I used it for the first time last night and it actually kept me awake with the light. Not sure what I am going to do.

Im not completely happy with this sound machine because the lowest volume is too low and the next level is too loud. Some of the sounds are not soothing to me, more irritating but the ones I like, for eg Surfs Up and Oceanside, work well. I like the fact that they can be timed to go off and I like how easy it is to set the alarm, time, etc. I would recommend this to someone but I wouldnt be totally enthusiastic about it.

I first used the Sharper Image Sound Machine at the Hotel Sierra. I slept better than I had in years! I ordered one online the day I got home. I fall asleep to SURFS UP every night and STAY asleep. I also like that it has 2 different alarms that can wake up to a beep or music. I hardly ever slept through the night before my Sound Machine. Works wonders!
Avoid the Sound Soother
I have a sound machine Im happy with, but I need another. Since I can no longer find the one I have on the market, I bought the Sharper Image Sound Soother. Unfortunately, this is one of the worst Ive seen. The sound controls are digital: setting sound to 1 is too soft; setting sound to 2 is too loud. There is no comfortable sound setting. The screen lights up very brightly, and cannot be adjusted or turned off. It is too bright if you plan to sleep in the same room. Actually, you can turn it off if you run it from batteries instead of a power outlet. But the instructions state emphatically that the batteries are ONLY for backing up the time and other data, not for running the sound soother. But having a battery-operated machine for travel was the reason I bought it. I found this sound machine to be so poorly designed it is completely useless.

I purchased this product to help me sleep. It has not only helped but has improved my sleep patterns. It has a number of different sleep sounds to choose from but I use the rain sound which is very soothing and helps me to relax. I was very skeptical about purchasing this product because of some of the bad reviews online and I have to say I am glad I purchased this product. I use this for my girls bedroom during the nighttime so they here this noise because one of my daughters is a light sleeper and keeps waking up from random noises. This has already helped her to sleep better through the night.

Great Loud Sound,but beware of warranty
My son became use to hear white noise when he would sleep. I used a couple different sound machines, but would break within 3-4 months. So I decided to try the sound machine. I love it! You cant pick up the repetitive sound that you would hear in most sound machines. Its also louder than most machines. The LDS light can be put on low or high. Our machine did break only after it dropped four times.

this is a terrible noise machine. each of the different settings all sound like the same tinny screech (the opposite of soothing), because the speaker is so cheap. i got a noise machine from target for $14 a few years back that is ten times better than this. im retuning mine tomorrow, and you shouldnt buy one.

Good product
We bought this for the white noise component, as it is comparable in price to dedicated white noise machines, but w/ a lot of additional features. A big bonus is that you can dim the digital screen, or black it out entirely w/out unplugging if youre sensitive to any light at night. My only complaint is that while the white noise options works great, the other sound options seem to repeat the same short sound bit (albeit smoothly and seemlessly). Would have liked to have heard significantly longer sound bits so there is less repetition.

I like the soothing sounds, but the clock display itself is annoying. The numerals are too close together and hard to read and the display itself it too bright. Could use a dimmer feature.
doesnt last long
I purchased this machine about 6 months ago. It worked fine until about a month or so ago. Then, it died. I tried to unplug/replug, change the batteries but it still doesnt work. The clock display is black, the turn on button for the sounds doesnt respond. I know that Sharper Image is a trusted name, but this machine---which cost $50---only lasted a few months.

Meets the Need
My husband has an early alarm for his job. I have a later time so usually he retires for the night before I do. I felt that having the TV playing was not giving him a good nights rest so now the TV stays off and the soothing sounds meet both of our needs to go to sleep and to wake up. Depending on our day and mood we have the ability to change the bedtime accompaniment.
Also like the fact that we can set the timer to go off after we are asleep.
I needed help sleeping next to a snorer
I have used this twice and both times I was not real happy with the results. I like all the different sounds. I set it for 30 minutes and it went on for almost 2 hours. The second time I used it I could not turn it off because the backlight did not work.
I needed something that when the snorer is happily snoring, I could easily turn it on and have that noise drown out the snoring. As of this date that hasnt happened. I will keep using it for another 2-3 weeks and determine if I will keep it or not.

Cant imagine sleeping without it!
I am a super light sleeper who lives in a condo building where I sometimes wonder if the walls are insulated with a sheet of paper. I was waking up to EVERYTHING before I finally purchased this. I now sleep through the night and dont wake up to any outside noise. The only negative thing about it is that the volume control is on a scale (1, 2, 3, etc.), and there is a big difference between 1 and 2. 1 is a little quieter than I would like, but 2 is very loud! Love this product though, and I would recommend it to anyone who is a light sleeper and needs a bit of comforting background noise.

Have tried two of these units...love the features and design....Big problem...the sound unit on both radios would work for 30 seconds and then start skipping like a scratched record. Tough to sleep with that...
Lots of sound options
The sounds that this device has are a bit odd: avian & foghorns? I refer to the avian as what the Harry Potter movies used for the Pixies. The steamtrain sounds I cannot imagine finding relaxing. Some of the sounds would be more something I could sleep to if it were not for an extra frog in the backgroud. Overall a whole lot of choices for the money. Radio, clock, alarms with days of the week, etc. I love the white noise, fireside for sleeping to and the windchimes are my first alarm to go off.

Sleek Clock/White Noise Machine
I like the design and size of the overall product. It is very slim and does not take up much room on the nightstand with it being both an alarm clock and noise machine. I like the option of different levels of brightness for the display, but do wish the lowest setting was even more dull than it is.
Nice nature sound but no radio
The nature sounds on this white noise machine are very realistic, have a lot of variety, and the alarm clock is easy to use. The speakers have a really nice sound for the small size of this package.
The only thing missing from this is an AM/FM radio or an MP3 player input socket. Its nice to listen to the nature sounds but would also be nice to be able to listen to other music of my choice. I feel that I will get tired of hearing the same nature sounds over and over again. Having the option to provide my own media would make this a knockout product.
SOOTHING SOUND MACHINE WILL RELAX YOU
Every night, while reading before turning off the lights to sleep, I play this wonderful machine with the relaxing sounds it offers. I particularly like the sounds of the ocean. It takes away any stress I might have had earlier.
When you cant get to the beach bungalow
I use the Sound Soother to help drift off to sleep. Great range of sounds to choose from. I especially like the fog horn. Why wake up to an alarm, when you can emerge from your slumber with the sound of ocean waves crashing on the shore!
Not that impressed
husband uses it every night to go to sleep and we have found that the sound bites are too short and they repeat so often it becomes annoying. Also the speakers seem to be very low quality, the sound is very tinney. I purchased this as a gift for my husband, and I am not at all satisified with it. It is very attractive and easy to set up and run but for the price of the product, attractive and easy to set up is not enough for me.

I love this machine
I get irritated when my neighbors at the office engage in noisy conversation and they get irritated when I turn up the radio. Bird song and water lapping at a dock, among others, make everyone happy. And, after hours, I still have the option of playing some music.

Great Product for the Price
I bought this product for my 8 year old who has trouble getting to sleep at night. He loves it! It is a nice size, you can read the display screen and it was easy to understand and set. He loves to uses the alarm function. Havent had it long enough to say anything about the battery life, we have it plugged in. But it is small enough that we can take it with us when we travel. We love that it has 20 different choices of sound.

I bought this for my 12 year old who has a terrible time falling asleep. The first night using it he was asleep in 10 minutes. It was amazing! I love the auto shut off timer feature so I dont worry about it being left on overnight. All around this was a great purchase. I would highly recommend for anyone that needs some help getting to sleep.

Good Product
I purchased this to help me sleep and block out the outside noise. I dont have any complaints, the volume goes up fairly loud and I like that it has a dimming feature that you can control. I do wish that the power cord were a little bit longer, but other than that, so far so good. The true test will come when summer arrives and it gets really noisy.

I bought this for my son to help him sleep and he decided to use the ocean sounds and around 4am the noise make would wake him up with annoying birds sounds.

Love It!
The North Woods sound to be sooooo soothing. It makes me feel like I am camping and I love it. I enjoy sleeping with the window open so that I can hear natures sounds but as it gets colder, that is not practical. BUT...if I wake up and cannot tell whether the window is open or the Sound Soother is playing in the dark, it must be realistic! I sleep soundly every night with it and wake to the Aviary alarm setting...the cheerful sound of birds...very life-like. What a pleasant and unintrusive way to get up! There are 20 sounds, but those are my favorites.

I need white noise all night and that is difficult to find - most machines that combine white noise with a clock only allow you to set a timer to fall asleep to white noise. I thought the instructions were terrible and inaccurate and found the time and alarm hard to set. Nice selection of sounds and nice features - a bit flimsy but good for the price

I have had other white noise machines that were highly rated but not loud enough for me. I had a chat with a sales agent who assured me he owned this one and it is loud. It has 8 volume levels and the 8 is perfect for me-but adjustable so everyone should be able to find the correct level for individual preference. It is lightweight and easy to use. I dont use or need the clock so cannot comment on that. Highly recommended.

Having the sounds of the ocean helps me focus on drifting off to sleep. Many others to choose from but this is my favorite. Sounds are so natural!Price was very reasonable too.

Ive had this product for about two days, and I love it! I bought it to replace a previous sound machine that I had only owned for about two months, but it only contained six sounds to choose from. I use this product every day and night. I work nights so need the sound machine during the day to block out noise. The sound from the machine is great and there are plenty of sound options and the sound from the speakers is great. very easy to use and set up. There are two alarms which you have several sound options(noise, beep), theres a snooze alarm too. great product and reliable. also several levels of volume and brightness. Nothing bad to say at all. Background hiss louder than sounds.
I like the idea of the sound machine but I found the too bright light of the clock distracting when trying to sleep (it lit up my whole room) and the hiss in the background caught my attention more than any one of the sounds the machine was supposed to be making.
Finally an outstanding alarm clock !!
This White Noise clock has a tremendous number of sound options. You can set the maxiuum sound level. When the alarm goes off it gradually increases the sound to the preset level - no more startling alarm clocks. Simply a great product with a battery backup to hold the time in the event of a power loss. The clock does not automatically set to the current time but there is a switch to change the time from standard to daylight savings time.
Just what I wanted
I was looking for a sound machine with ocean surf noises. This is perfect. I really like that the lighting can be set to multiple levels including none. The timer for sleeping is easy to use.

I have had insomnia for the last six months and was getting desperate for some sleep. After reading the reviews on this product I figured I would try it. Ive had it for about one month and love it. Nice variety of authentic sounds. Good looking and like that its also an alarm clock. However, wish the sound settings allowed for variable volume not just low, medium and high. On the low setting, there is a clear buzz that is distracting and takes away from the soothing sounds.

The construction isnt as substantial as I anticipated, but its nice looking. Backlight settings are decent. Volume adjustments arent as fine as they could be. Could use a Qi gong sound, instead of the City sound or the fog horns. Fog horns? Do folks find that soothing?

Excellent Sound Machine/Clock Radio
I love my new sleek-design sound machine/alarm clock! I have owned so many of these through the years and its been a struggle to find just the right sound, along with the needed functions (alarm, 15/30/45/60-minute timer, radio, snooze, dimmer, etc). I was skeptical at 1st because the machine is so lightweight and didnt seem "solid" but once I put it into use I forgot that right away, and the lightness in weight allows me to pick it up while lying in bed and bring it to me if I need to make an alarm setting change. I am VERY low-tech, but still find the controls easy to figure out without even reading the booklet. I can even change them in the dark! I use the 60 min timer to listen to the sound of my choice before sleep and there are MANY choices--all realistic and not "tinny" at all. Puts me right to sleep! A feature here thats hard to find on many models is the digital clock backlight dimmer--you have low, medium, high and off! I had a Conair that was good, but it was like having a bright blue light on

Been using a machine similar to this, helps to sleep tremendously, this particular machine has more sounds but I only use a couple.
The volume cannot be controlled lower, the readout cannot be dimmed low enough.
Used it for a couple of nights and havent used it since because of that problem, otherwise its a good product.

Need of sleep
I live in a tent with 9 other people. One guys snored all night. I needed something to make a little noise so I would not focus on the guys snoring. I bought this white noise maker/other noises and it worked. I was not able to drown him out totally but I was able to create enough backgraound noise so I was not easily disturbed by his snoring.
So Far So Great
We purchased this sound machine for an upcoming sailing trip because of the battery operation. We tried it out at home and so far it has worked flawlessly and the one set of batteries is still working after a week. So Far so Good/great.
bright and buzzing
The alarm is hard to use so I dont. (I use my old inexpensive alarm.) The display is so bright I have to keep a towel over it. And it makes an annoying buzzing noise in the background when the sounds are turned on so you have to keep it far away or it gets irritating. The only thing good about it is the variety of sounds which is excellent. I had an old sound soother that I loved which burned in a house fire. I thought this should be improved, but its much worse.

I LOVE THIS PRODUCT! I just moved to a place where the street noise makes it hard for me to sleep. Now, all I need to do is turn on the Oceanside or Ebb Tide setting and Im asleep in no time. It really drowns out other sounds. Having dual alarms is great, too. I highly recommend this item.

I have been using white noise machines for twenty years. The price of some today is outrageous. This one was reasonably priced; gives you a huge selection of masking noises. Would like more "bass in sounds. Still, it really helps me sleep in my noisy apartment(I am a very light sleeper) and has fun added features, like adjustable back light, a switch for daylight savings time (not mentioned in handbook) and dual alarms. Just perfect
My husband and I both use the Sound Soother. We both have different sounds we love, but we both agree we wished we would have purchased this product sooner. My husband works nights and every other Friday night, and he has a hard time staying asleep. Since weve gotten the Sound Soother, he has managed to stay asleep, and has a restful sleep, too.

Miracle Worker
I have always fallen asleep with the TV on, and it would take hours at times. Since the first night, setting the oceans sounds, I havent used the TV since. The first alarm I set to wake is the same ocean sound a half hour before I have to get up, and then use the rain forest to bring me to a greater state of wake. Theres a sound for everyone! It is wonderful and I never thought Id sleep without the TV on...get better sleep.
Soothing sounds
I gave the Sound Machine to my friend as a gift. When we opened the first one the screen would not light up. However the return on the product was pretty easy. The replacement radio arrived before I sent the old one back. It was perfect and my friend is really enjoying all the sounds.

A One of a Kind Sleeper
This is a one of a kind sleeper that actually puts you to sleep. Its really great we bought it for our granddaughter who has difficulty getting to sleep. Now that she uses this with its twenty possible choices shes dozing off to la la land with no trouble. A caveat to this, however, it is said that when some people hear the sound in real life, they tend to get sleepy.

A few glitches
This product looks good but has a few glitches: 1) Even the dim light is far too bright 2) The volume level at level one is too quiet and at volume two, too high. You have a choice of the sounds being too soft or too loud. Oh, and the instruction book does not tell you how to set the dual alarms.

Sounds are great. Love the NOrth Woods and Summer Evening sounds, sleep like a baby. Wind chimes and brook are nice for during the day. A few odd sounds probably will never use like city and locomotive though..
How about including ALL the instructions?
I specifically requested this Sound Soother alarm clock as a Christmas gift. Well, I was pretty excited to find it under the tree this morning. However, that excitement was short-lived since I spent 2 hours trying to figure out how to set the alarm! I finally had to go to your website to get ALL the instructions - the instruction booklet included with the clock was missing the last 4 pages - pretty important if youre trying to set the alarms (pp. 8-9). I spent another hour trying to set the alarm according to the online instructions. No luck with that either. Ill be returning this gift tomorrow and will go back to using my 10-year old $8.00 alarm clock from Wal-Mart.

I used to dread overnight travel for business, staying in noisy hotels by the freeways. This little device drowns out the hotel and street noise and lets me get a good nights sleep. Definitely worth a place in the suitcase!
Works great to help me get to sleep
This was a replacement to a SoundSoother Ive used for over 20 years.
The other had a radio, this one does not.
But this unit is fine for what I want, the sounds I want to help me sleep and an alarm.

Sounds of Sleep
I love most of the sounds, could do without the traffic and the train. They were more irritating than soothing. A dimmer on the LED time display would have been a good idea. I have to put a cover over it so I could fall asleep.
Almost a great product
I bought this clock to replace an old fan that my wife used to help her sleep, and for the most part it does a great job. The two biggest complaints that I have are that this clock uses a digital volume control, and the clock brightness causes an audible hum.
With the volume controls, in a quiet bedroom, the difference between 1 and 2 is faint to loud, and anything above 2 is way too loud to sleep by (at least for us). We were unable to get the volume at an acceptable level without moving the clock to the far end of the room, and putting a folded up T-shirt in front of the speakers to soften it.
With the clock brightness-hum, as you turn up the brightness, the hum gets louder. Since we dont use this as an alarm clock, it would be fine if we could turn off the clock entirely, since the hum is still present at the lowest brightness. The hum is most present at volume level 1, which is why we had to turn up the volume to level 2, and go through the process outlined above.

liked, but volume control not good
I really liked the product and was excited for it to arrive. The deisgn is great and very easy to use. The main reasons for purchasing this item was for environmental noise reduction (dog snoring, tv, husband on phone while sleeping, etc) and to remove an air cleaner used for white noise off my floor. I loved the sounds, the only and main issue was the volume from 1 to 2 was a huge difference. #1 was too low and #2 was too loud. I ended up returning the item....
Useable, but not completely happy
Use it every night. There is an extra "buzzing" sound that is disappointing but we are choosing to ignore it. We would like to have had and sound level in between #1 and #2--#1 is too soft and #2 is too loud!
Worth Every Penny
I use this to sleep. I find North Woods and Fog Horn very good, but it has so many choices to choose from, Ive not tried all of them yet. Has a great sleeper timer I use every night. And the alarm lets you wake to whatever sound you desire, or to radio or tone. Great work!

It actually works
This little machine offers umpteen sounds, but "Surfs Up" has been doing such a slam-bang job of lulling me to sleep that I havent been inclined to sample the others. I mean, why bother? I have been sleeping more soundly and waking up much less often during the night -- usually no more than once instead of my pre-purchase pattern of four or five times. Its made a huge difference for me, especially in feeling alert at work.

I cant stand ANY outside noises, this lets me use the white noise or ocean waves and due to major sleeping issues. And also it takes me longer to go to sleep sometimes than 60 or 30 minutes, so I was searching for a machine to play all night....perfect for that purpose.
It is lightweight, compact, easily controlled, and, I can adjust the lighting to total darkness or lots of light and I suffer with that also, I need total darkness but a dependable alarm clock at the same time. It is VERY versatile! I am in love!

My sons uses the clock for basically the soothing sounds. He has fibromyalgia and has difficulty sleeping and staying asleep. Now he uses the ocean sound or the rainforest and sleeps through the night. Better that medication !

Novel idea but poor implementation
Great and novel idea. I would greatly benefit from the alarm except it has some important flaws. The lights brightness are adjustable but still too bright for sleep. Research shows that sleep quality is reduced when room now sufficiently dark, even when unnoticeable. It would be great to have the alarm gradually turn on and the worst is that the sound samples are only about 5 seconds long which makes them very obviously repetitive and very hypnotic rather than relaxing. With memory so cheap, it would cost like 1 cent per machine to make the sound 5 min long instead of 5 seconds long. Why give up so close to the intended objective?
Best Sound Machine on the market!
This was a gift for my daughter who has insomnia. After researching similar products this one had the most options, the best reviews and was well priced. I want one for myself. The best is my 21year old is now finally sleeping like a baby, and cant live without this machine. My only complaint would be to remove the description of this product as being a "white noise" machine, (when doing a quick search on this type of product) it deters consumers into thinking this has only one option....white noise...as in little girl on poltergeist in front of the tv, when you have an outstanding huge selection. I had to order online, which was perfect, as no-one carried your product but I was hesitant only cause I waited until last minute.

The machine is easy to use. The radio is very good and most of the sound choices are good--some are weird.

I needed this for day sleeping as I now work overnight and am a light sleeper easily disturbed. The sounds are nice, 3/4 of which would keep me personally awake, but the ocean surf works like a charm covering the awake people noise in my house.
A good nights sleep
It has a number of pleasant sounds and wake up sounds...It takes a while to catch on to the controls , but once you do it easy to use...love that you can set the amount of time the sound stays on at night...over all its pleasant sounding at bed time and gets me in the mood to sleep...
What I was looking for
I work the night shift so this has come in handy trying to tune out the day to day noises. I can finally sleep through the day! Most of the sounds are soothing and the bonus is having 10 sounds to choose from.
This small machine has great sounds!
Great for drowning out noises such as snoring, outside traffic and so on. There are so many relaxing sounds to choose from to help you get a good nights sleep or even for daytime, when you want quiet reading time without hearing outside noises.
nice looking and great shape
Many music choices are great. the lenght of the music should be greater than 60 mins...maybe up to 90 mins. Havig 2 alarms is a nice plus.

We thought that it would help with sleeping, it doesnt seem to do that. Have not used it much. Was disappointed that we could not return it without having return shipping paid for. just sits on our dresser

There are not enough steady sounds. The "white noise" sound is the only steady sound. All the rest are not.
Great variety of sound choices.
Would be great if you could adjust the intensity of the clock light. The choice of comfort sounds is great. The volume range of sounds is great. The pounds are very realistic.
The sound machine is just great.
We use the white noise function to block out neighborhood noises when sleeping. The chimes are great for relaxing. They have a calming effect.
Clock is better than average
The clock is a bit bright even with the dim setting, there are 3 settings. There is no radio which is weird for me since Ive always had a radio but not a biggie since I dont use the clock to listen to the radio. All in all, a pretty good clock. Its light and the style is good.

Does the job
Its nice to have a selection of sounds, but I usually use white noise, as I am using this product to block out city sounds and I need something constant. (I have seen similar machines with a few white noise options, that would have been a nice choice here) I am generally satisfied, except the display is so bright, even on the lowest setting, its a problem for a light sleeper.

Love It
I use this every night as i am a very light sleeper. The white noise and the air conditioner sounds are perfect. Took it with me on a trip and was easy to pack and battery lasted the whole week with no problems. The LED lighting is just right.

Great product for the price
This is a great little noise machine. i work at night and sleep during the day. This machine helps drown out daytime noises. There are some osunds, however, that would not be relaxing to many people (foghorn, locomotive - who could sleep to those?). Overall, I would receommend this machine if you need something with soothing, repetitive noice for sleep at night or drowning out annoying daytime noise.
Needs seperate volume for sounds & alarm
There is a slight buzzing sound in the background when using the sound machine. Also, I like the sound effect volume low but I cant use it as an alarm clock because its too quiet to wake me up. You need a seperate volume for sound & alarm. It does have a great selection of different nature sounds.
Lots of sound choices
We like this unit because you can set the length of time the sounds play. Not all the sounds are appealing to us. Would be fun to wake to the sound of a foghorn instead of trying to sleep to it. It also has dual alarms for waking which are nice and a large bright display. We turn it towards the wall at night and since the speakers are in the back the sounds are clearer. We havent had it long enough to determine durability or battery life. All in all were pleased.

This is great for sleeping. My husband works nights and sleeping during the day is not an easy thing. These sounds help him stay asleep.
Pretty good
It is either too loud or too quiet, needs another volume adjustment. It also could use some more soothing sounds and sounds that dont get quiet and loud again. It needs more consistent sounds.
Sleep at last!
I ordered this so I had something to take with when I traveled for white noise. It is perfect! The different settings for noise are soothing and realistic sounding. This is better than anything else I found.
I LOVE My Sound Soother!
The Sound Soother White Noise Machine definitely soothes! It offers a great variety of sounds and the added function of an alarm clock is so nice - many uses in one machine! Ive only had it for a few weeks and am still figuring out all the added features, but Im so very pleased with this machine!!

Average Sleep Machine
Originally purchased a more expensive sleep machine from [@] which I returned because design of product (location of buttons, controls, etc) was not even close to logical. The Sharper image machine is less expensive and far better in design and layout. Easy to use.The cons of this unit are several. The lowest backlighting setting on the screen is far too bright for my tastes. The lowest volume setting on the sleep sounds is too loud, primarily if you are sleeping with your spouse or partner. The quality of the sounds is not high.As I am a tinnitus sufferer and a poor sleeper I will continue my search for the perfect sleep machine. For now, I will keep this unit as I feel it is a reasonable value and until I can find a superior machine.
Sound soother
Actually it is for the guest bedroom. I have a different brand in our bedroom. The sounds on this are similar and I like that. I do like the size, color and shape, but the button controls are just a little sticky to the push. Otherwise it is great for the price.

Too loud!
The design and overall machine is nice, but the volume control is disappointing. Volume set to 1 which is the lowest is quite loud for a machine at bedside. The volume goes up to 10 and i cannot imagine somone using it for sleeping. It is a shame because it looks great and the sounds are otherwise good

Great item. Combines a variety of soothing sleep sounds for falling asleep to with a clock and alarm for waking up to something other than an annoying buzzer style alarm. Clock numbers are large and easy to read and the brightness control allows you to make the numbers bright or dull depending on your sleep sensitivities.

I bought the Sound Soother White Noise Machine because I suffer from chronic insomnia. I wasnt sure it would work, but I was blown away. I loved they compact design. Sleek and modern. Also, it has a huge variety of sounds to pick from so anyone could find something to soothe their mind. I liked the thunderstorm the best. Glad I bought this -- lots of sounds!
A nice variety of sounds to choose from. The count-down timer is great. Only thing that could be improved is better volume control at the lower levels. At the lowest setting its a little too soft but the next setting up is too loud for me. I wish there was a setting between the two of them.
