Some of their models Ive seen used by small aircraft and helicopter pilots. Those cost over 1000$. The QC15 cost much less, but deliver same quality. Theyre comfortable and dont pinch if you wear glasses. However, they are a bit flimsy and I wonder how durable they will be. Excellent noise cancellation headphones Good: - Great noise cancellation. One common theme is that they all generate a faint hissing sound in the background. But not this Bose. - Excellend build quality. Come with a good flat carrying case. - Good sound quality. Great clarity in all ranges. Purely from sound quality point of view, my Audio Technica ATH50 is still superior (for my home use). This Bose headphone is mainly for travel use. Not so great: - It has to be powered on in order to listen to music. So if you run out of battery, you cant use it in a "passive" mode. While my other noise cancellation headphones can still be used to listen to music without the noise cancellation, eventhough the sound quality seems to take a hit. - While the sound have very good clarity in all ranges, I found the base is a little lacking for my personal taste. - Expensive. These headphones are great. I recently used them for a cross country flight and they worked like a charm. The noise cancelling feature is second to none. My only complaint would be that the volume control does not work properly unless you are using an apple device. If you have an android phone or tablet you have to control the volume via the device and through cable. Other than that this is the best headphones I have owned hands down. These headphones retail at $300 and can be found on sale for around $250-270. Needless to say, these are actually pretty pricey headphones. Unfortunately, the audio quality during music playback is terrible. And I dont mean terrible for $300 headphones, I mean its pretty bad in general. Poor soundstage, artificial bass, not enough highs and mids. If youre not an audiophile you might find them acceptable because its a very "warm" sound. But if you really like music youll find the audio quality is worse than pair of Sennheisers that cost, literally 1/10th the price. So why a 5 star review? Because the noise cancellation and long-term wearing comfort of these headphones are unsurpassed. Ear cushions are soft, well ventilated, and seal noise well. The noise cancellation is absolutely brilliant. Very very low white noise (hiss) and really cancels out the loudest stuff coming in: for example, loud and dull hum of a 767. For that reason alone, these Excellent Noise Reduction Headphones I tried several noise cancelling headphones but have only purchased one other prior to the Bose QC15. These Bose headphones are the best at noise reduction. Quality of sound reproduction is good but not outstanding. Suits my needs for noise reduction on airplanes, etc. But I use other headphones when at home or in an otherwise quiet environment that doesnt require noise cancellation. They are fairly comfortable and while not compact, can easily be carried in a carry on. Overall, a good purchase if you need noise cancellation while traveling and can afford the high price tag. Do yourself a favor if youre a traveler and get a pair of these, it completely changes your airline/travel experience. The only downside I can see with these is that they can be a little bulky, especially if you like traveling light. Finally Succumbed I was very impressed with the QC15, after pondering over it for months and months and being hesitant to fork out the price. I didnt know where to insert the battery and there was nothing in the manual so I had to look it up online which was very strange. The battery cover also seems flimsy and Im a bit afraid it will break over time but I hope not. Otherwise it worked great in the noisy subway train and I hardly heard any of the rails screech. It can blocks constant noise very effectively, for example jets humming, or trains travel. The sound is average at best and there are better sound for the price out there. For example, when there is no music playing, you can hear the person talking next to you with the headphones on. My other, regular headphones better block speech passively, while BOSEs QC 15 shines when it comes to constant noises, like jet engine turbines.
