Worth the price
I live in a noisy condo complex and had trouble falling and staying asleep. Since receiving the SSTS, Ive had a full nights sleep every night. I highly recommend the Hawaiian Surf "channel"
Id would purchase this product again.
The Sleep Sound Therapy System helps me to fall asleep and stay asleep longer, as well as block out noise/sounds both in and outdoors that would otherwise prevent me from doing so. I particularly appreciate the various "sound" choices that are available, as well as the opportunity to utilize an AM/FM radio. It is easy to program and see the time/programs, since the face lights up.

I really like this product. I use it while reading, relaxing and turn it on before sleeping. The variety of soothing sounds is great. You can put it on timer or just have it on all night. Seems to be good quality which is why I was willing to pay this much. Other products seem to give out in such a short time.

This is my 2nd one of these
I purchased this product originally becuase I needed a clock radio with alarms that had white noise. I really like that this has radio presets and it is the only one I could find anywhere that has presets. I have the white noise on all night to try and block our the noise from my upstairs neighbors and this works better than any other product I have used.
I really wish it just had white noise and not all the other sounds and combinations, because I think that is why it is more expensive.
The reason I had to purchase a new one is because the speakers are starting to go out on it, sometimes if I have the volume too loud it turns into static noise.
When I was searching for a replacement product that had all the features I wanted this was the only product I found. I will buy this again if I need to.
THERE IS NO BETTER! Not for me, anyway.

What I was looking for
When my 20+ year old Sound Soother sputtered to a halt, I despaired of finding a replacement. I wanted dual alarms, a battery that would power the alarm in a power outage. Other products were reviewed poorly: too bright, too loud, too confusing. This one is perfect. Once set up, it is easy to operate. I like the count-down nap timer. The "buzzer" is pleasant-sounding.
A sound for everyone
I have only used the sleep sound system for 2 weeks. I spent the first 8 days trying to find the perfect sound for me. So far I am happy with the bio-sync sound. It is calming, it does not fade in and out with volume and most of all...I do notice the repeat of the tract sound. I enjoy it so much that if I do wake up, I reach for the on button to start it up again! The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because many of the calming water sounds have annoying bird sounds in the background that constantly repeat the exact same sound every 15 seconds or so. I really was looking forward to sleeping with water sounds but there are just too many distracting background sounds.

After doing research on the benefits of Sound Therapy, I reviewed the options on the internet and then back to Sharper Imagine where my previous Alarm was purchased. At first I was worried the design would clash with our style as the picture shown looks rather odd and unattractive. The price also had me wondering if I had paid too much for an alarm clock with sound music!
When the product arrived my husbands first comments were, oh I like that! The product was smaller in size in a good way and the functions on the device were strong and sturdy. The only thing I expected but didnt get was the number of sounds. There are 25 basic sounds and the ability to "mix" sounds where you can overlay a few sounds of which I didnt enjoy... I am looking for sound therapy while I sleep and song birds/ Loons/ Fog Horns etc are not what I consider relaxing/ sleeping music.
The conclusion is I am glad I made the purchase, paid the high price and enjoy the basic sounds! Good buy!
Loving it!
I use all functions. The radio sound is better than average. Preset sounds are great in the day as well as at night. The lighted "time of day" is very visible yet soft enough not to disturb sleep. The buttons are easy to use without turning on a light if you need to adjust the sound at night. Have not hooked up the IPhone or Ipad yet, but am excited to know that this is possible.

Everything I wanted and more
Bought this for the sounds and the fact it had so many features. I have not been disappointed. It receives both AM and FM well, better than the small stereo system it is replacing. The selection of sounds is great and very soothing. My Ipod plugs in seamlessly. It takes up minimal space at my bedside. Well designed.
Had to return item
Disappointed that there were several dysfunctional parts of this sound machine, right out of the box. The date/time stamp read 2011, so Im guessing that this item has sat on the shelf for many years. Ive been a Sharper Image customer for many years. Unhappy with this unprofessional service.
The Best!
If you want the best white noise machine - this is the unit to get! It is a little expensive, but I think well worth the money. It actually fills your room with sound because it has 3 speakers (one which is a subwoofer). The alarm clock is great and I can play my iPhone music through it too. The sound mixing is pretty cool too - thunderstorm is amazing, ocean surf - just like the real thing.

GoodNight Sleep
Good sound choices. Actual sound quality is great compared to all other sound machines Ive tried. Clock dims enough to be seen but not keep you awake. I wish it had a remote. After using it for a while sleep is great but a remote would be nice.
Cost is high, but others sound about as good as a cell phone used as a speaker phone.

This is the fist sound therapy system ive heard that sounds realistic! Lots of choices. Was dissapointed it didnt have a waterfall option. Overall very happy with the purchase.
Sleep Soundly
Out of the box, I was disappointed the plug that goes to the outlet is large and bulky. I had to remove the nightlight from the other socket to plug in. On the good side the plug rotates giving the plug some flex-ability. I look forward to restful nights.
So Far So Good
We bought this for our newborn babies. We have had it on 24/7 for a few weeks, and all is working well. The sound quality is great. I found it pretty easy to use in basic modes. But, the advanced features do not seem intuitive.
I will try and update this review, once I have used it more. I will say, however, I like it enough that I am now ordering one for my mother.
A top of the line sleep aide.
The product was well made with excellent speakers and clear directions. The price was somewhat high, but I felt that I got what I paid for.
Exactly what I was looking for!
Very easy to set up. Radio receiver excellent. Use sleep timer for radio / sound sooothers every night--also simple to use. Sound sooothers are natural and wonderful. Back lighting is 3-way adjustable, and NOT too bright for sleeping.
Would buy this again.

Serves a purpose but not mine
We live at an intersection with too many motorcycles. We wanted to take the radio from room to room depending on where we were to block out road noise. Must use two hands to carry (no handle); must reset clock and settings each time (maybe different if we had batteries in it); cant easily flip to various radio stations like we can with Sirrius. With AM/FM radio, clarity was not always crystal clear; however, when using the various sounds....SUPERB! They were clear, relaxing, and mesmerizing. I will look for a similar model but this one does not meet all my needs.
Cant Beat the Sleep!
This is a replacement for a 20 year old Smarter Image Sound Soother that finally gave up after nightly use. The new model has better sound dynamics and the ability to combine sounds to suit the user. After a week of nightly use, I would say it is a very adequate replacement.

I got this because, after caring for an ailing husband who awoke at all hours of the night, my sleep patterns were in bad shape. I tried everything except sleep medication because I didnt want to take drugs. With this machine, it has taken me less than a week to begin sleeping through the night. Its so good that I bought one for my daughters room and one for my guest room. I live within earshot of the freeway and railroad so this will help my guests sleep through the night despite train whistles and truckers down-shifting.
Sound quality
I was hoping to replace my older clock radio that had a broken CD player. I am not completely happy with the sound quality of the radio - even if I adjust the treble/bass it doesnt sound that great. I fall asleep to the radio sometimes and I can not lower the volume enough - even on "1" it is still too loud. The sound effects can be adjusted low enough and most of them are relaxing. A few are, in my opinion, not that great, such as the train or heartbeat. The unit overall is a good size for a bedside table and the illumination is dim enough for night. As mentioned earlier, my negative review is for the radios sound quality.
perfect sound
I was looking for a specific sound and this machine has it. I would like it for travel, but it is too big for that. I also think it is very expensive. Hope this one lasts a long long time.
Love it!
This product is great! I researched long and hard before finally choosing, and this is it. It is very easy to use, and the sounds are spectacular. I go to sleep with 60 of ocean waves (can choose 30, 60 or 90) and turn it back on when I get up in the morning so that my 2nd shift husband will lull back to sleep while I get ready for work. The alarm begins softly, before getting louder, so I can get it turned off before it gets loud. The sounds are taped from nature and are fabulous! Love it....obviously.

I bought this for a friend. She made a long, driving trip and used the white noise feature to block out sounds at various motels she stayed at. The selection of sounds is very good and she had many a restful nights sleep.
Awesome sound machine!
Ive used this product every night since purchasing. Previously, I had another brand that I knew from the first night would not work. This product has many different sounds, a 90 minute timer, excellent dual speakers and important to me.....the backlight can be seen during the day but turned way down or even off for night sleeping. I cannot recommend this product enough. I love it. Well worth the cost.
Your problem of Chronic Insomnia cured !
My sleep machine is set on Ocean...but I use the rainstorm and white noise too. There are so many choices you will assuredly find the one best for you. The dual alarms are a real plus;). Even the lighted dial is adjustable for up to three intensitys so as not to keep you awake...real subtle light tailored to not waking you up during the night. Amazing machine! A must for day sleepers...night shift workers...insomniacs....even new pet owners as it provides a constant soothing sound for puppies and kitties.
I do not regret the purchase of this pro
I use this product to go to sleep at night, and as an alarm in the morning. The subwoofer, although compact and adequate, lacks the oomph of the earlier model. That said I am pleased with the product; just wish that it had frog sounds.

Great Sound Machine
The realistic sounds used for sleeping and meditation
are the best I have found and I have been using similar sound machines for many years.
The controls are also very helpful in being able to get to the exact sound wanted and the level of decible wanted as well
Not as advertised.
The digital display brightness at the highest setting was to dim and hard to see at any distance. Alarm at highest setting was not loud enough.
Fantastic
I was looking for an alarm clock that would awake me with different sounds. I hit the mother lode with this device. The sound quality is superior. The controls easy to understand. I had not planned to use the sleep therapy mode, but now Im a convert. This was not a gift. I had tried a few other products here, but had sent them back. This ones a keeper!

Regarding the train sound... Would be more relaxing if recorded from outside train as it passes. Maybe some faint whistle sounds too. The current one is from inside the train, just behind the engine. Seems to tense me up instead of being relaxing.
The raining sounds should sound like it is raining outside, not inside. Like how it would sound through the window.
Great 3-D sound!! Clear and realistic. Cant tell where recording starts over. Less expensive systems are very obvious where they start over, and are not anywhere near as clear. Well worth the money!!!

This would make a great Christmas gift
I bought this for my 12 yr. old granddaughter who has fibromyalgia. Now the white noise keeps her asleep and when she needs to relax she can listen to her favor sounds. I love it so much that I may buy one for myself, when I am in the kitchen cooking, or working in my office. The size allows it to be taken on vacation.
Sleep sound therapy system
I have been a avid sound machine user since they first came available. We use it on our night stand and sleep wonderfully! My old one is 14 years old and still works good, I just wanted a new one with updated sounds. I also have the first travel sound machine that this company offered, and it still works great, however the words have worn off with so much use. There is a noticeable difference In the quality of sounds available on this new machine. Overall I will choose this brand over any other that I have tested. I have and will continue to recommend this machine to anyone looking to purchase a machine that works as advertised.

sound oasis model S-5000
I use it to enhance sleep, and to drown out outside noise. The woofer is far inferior to your previous model S1785, which I loved.
Music to my ears
I decided to go with this model after my other sleep sound machine stopped working. The subwoofer option is great. Being able to see the number for the volume is great; So far, I have been very happy with it. It is easy to program and being able to dim the backlight is a great feature as well. Could use more bass, but that is only a small flaw.

Worlds Best Alarm Clock & Sleep Machine
I was searching for the Worlds Best alarm clock and I found it. I wanted a number of features: dual alarm, ascending alarm (starts very quietly and gradually gets louder), snooze timer and nap timer. It is VERY difficult to find all of these features on one unit. The Sound Oasis S-5000 has them ALL plus much more!
It is also a sleeping aid. The built-in sounds help one to drift off into sleep. I rarely need this feature but when I do... it is great to have! The sound quality is the best that can be found on this type of product.
I also much prefer the warm amber glow of the clock over the red, green or blue found on other products. It also has a calendar telling the date AND the day of the week, right under the time. Love that too, sometimes I do forget what day of the week it is.
There is also a headphone jack and the ability (with an accessory) to gradually turn a lamp on brighter and brighter to mimic dawn. This would be great if you use blackout drapes in your room.

I have used Sharper Image sound soothers for years on a nightly basis at home and when traveling. I needed a fourth one for another bedroom and this particular model is an improvement over my other three. The sound quality is wonderful and the alarm clock is a convenient feature. The volume is sufficient to drown out other sounds when trying to fall asleep and stay asleep in the early morning when birds are chirping.

I wake up several times each night. But with this product I just push the button and am lulled back to sleep. The sounds are absolutely amazing. The ocean and rain are so soothing. I just focus on them and drift off.

No more sleeples nights
I have had this exact looking model for at least 10 yrs now. My wife bought it because I used to put on light music,which made my wife crazy. Having grown up in noisy city environment,I couldnt stay asleep once I moved out to the sticks because every car door that slammed or dog that barked woke me up,which may seem contradictory but its the sudden noises in a quiet environment.With the White Noise (or whatever sound you go with)becomes a constant & consistent noise that allows one to fall asleep & not be woken by that annoying dog barking or cat fight.My wife,who is very frugal (uh-hmm..shush,shes cheap & I couldnt believe that she would spend that much,which wasnt a heck of a lot cheaper that it is now but it still works like a charm & we just stick w/White Noise because the water based sounds made my wife have to pee...so White Noise it was & still is all these years later. I wanted to buy 1 for my son,but,as the old adage says,"A rolling stone gathe...nope..umm "With 6 you get eggroll" no,no,Oh yeah
Soothing sounds help you relax
Ive used a white noise machine for years to help me sleep better. This one has a great speaker system that I can set loud enough to block street traffic noise outside my bedroom window or set softly to relax me while Im reading. It even seems to help the animals relax. LOVE this machine. If it were less expensive, I would buy one for all of my friends and family.

I bought this for myself and my husband to help us sleep better at night. It works! Turns out it also helps our 3 dogs sleep better, too, because they have been sleeping later in the morning which is nice.
The sound quality is good.
I love the multi features which is why I decided to purchase this model. We havent had much of an opportunity to use the iPod with it yet but I like the 3 preset radio buttons.
I did have to read the manual to figure out some things that I thought would be simple, but after reading I was able to set the clock and keep the alarm set.

We were sad as we did not think we would find another quality sound machine like we had. We returned to Sharper Image and bought this model and love it. I can sleep again
In the last 6 months I have had two total knee replacements and after the surgeries I developed a severe case of insomnia and did not want to take pills to help me sleep. I love to sleep when it rains or during thunderstorms. Listening to the rain sounds I fall asleep and stay asleep.
Sleep Sound Therapy a Winner
I use my Sleep Therapy Machine to relax while I read, just before falling asleep. The unit is easy to set up and use on a daily basis. I use my unit with good headphones, which really improves the effect of the various sounds. This machine is well made, and the designers have packed many useful features into a small space. I like the auxiliary sounds, such as the call of the loon, while listening to a stream or evening rain. Also, the AM and FM radio also comes in handy, and the simple antenna really pulls in stations, too. Highly recommended system.

Tinnitus Relief
I am a tinnitus sufferer and the device allows me to select a sound that almost totally masks my tinnitus. Now I can relax and watch a movie again or read without any distractions.

Ultimate Sound Machine (right now)
Good sounding radio/sound machine. I bought to help me fall asleep. I usually use wave type sounds and there is a big choice of those. I like that you can add a secondary sound to any of the primary choice sounds. Like seagulls to any of the wave choices. Speakers are okay. Decent sound, but not incredible. Very good volume control. I can play sounds loud or very soft. I wish alarm set button was a little larger.
sounds menu nice; radio not!
We enjoy the sounds and use it at bedtime. The radio has no reception, however. We get one fm station that we enjoy and only two others;am stations are nonexistant. Is this a common problem?
