Great, soothing sleep sounds
I use this product when I am trying to sleep and other people in my building are still up. I like the white noise best, it is a perfect frequency and really helps with the noise.

This is a terrific sound machine!!
If you have a problem falling asleep as I did, this little machine will "do the trick". There are 6 sounds to choose from, everyone being a little different. All of them are wonderful. It feels sooo good to finally be able to fall asleep so quickly, and after 90 minutes, the machine shuts itself off. What more could one want?

Now a sound sleeper
As I aged (I am 66 y/o)I was having difficulty getting to sleep and staying that way. I had often thought I would like one of these sound machines but never bought one. Finally I got the thing and use it every night, most often it is the "white noise". Love, love,love, this new toy of mine.

Easy to use. Nice design. Lightweight. Havent had it long enough to comment on battery life. Volulme is good, but could be louder for the hard of hearing folks. Nice that it will take a pillow speaker, but I dont have one to try. Also nice that you can add another sound card.

Restful sleep at last!
I experience continous tinnitus (ringing in the ears) which is more severe when I am trying to sleep. Add that to my husbands snoring, and getting to sleep had been often impossible! So, I thought this would help lull me to sleep, decrease the sound of the tinnitus and soften the rumbles of the husband. And, it has done all three! I feel rested and ready for the morning. Great, easy to use and portable device! I love the choice of sounds and as if I am on the seashore, hearing the rain...etc.

I have to say that Ive been having a difficult time getting out of bed in the morning. Listening to the sound of waves crashing all night is so soothing that I feel like Im on a beachside vacation. The product was delivered a lot quicker than expected. I bought it because I moved from the city to the suburbs where its so quiet at night that every little thing I hear wakes me. This sound soother creates enough ambient noise to help me sleep. It has a volume control and a setting for different timers or continuous use.I chose it because of its design. I didnt want another bulky item cluttering my nightstand and Im able to prop this up behind a picture frame to hide it without affecting the sound quality.
I received my delivery at my noisy office and immediately opened it and tried it out. It creates a nice little buffer for office chatter as well.
The only problem I had was with the extra sound card I bought for the thunderstorms. It didnt work when I inserted the card. I called Sharper Image a

This was a x-mas present for mother-in-law who lives in a small town but a busy street. She said the ocean sounds really helped to decrease the noise and allows her to rest better. Also, the controls are really easy for someone who is older and who is not that technical.

I used to use PM to sleep at night. Now, no more. This machine with its extra sound cards are the BEST. They are Very Realistic and put your mind at ease every time you use it. Ive just purchases the Sleep Sound Therapy System. Ive been considering purchasing one that was compact and contained a variety of sounds. So far Im very satisfied with this product. Its light and compact and I expect to be using it for quite a while.

Just what I was looking to purchase
We live on a busy highway and frequently watch our grandson. This sound machine is a blessing. It keeps the highway noise to a minimum.

This is a lightweight and very easy to use controls. The sound quality is very clear. You wont be disappointed.

While the actual unit is very good and works well, the additional sound cards that you can purchase and insert do not work well. Very difficult to get them to operate properly, they work hit or miss.
Good Sound Machine
I was a little disappointed in the dial controls -not the best. The rain sound has a very high, sharp quality - I will likely only use the surf sound or white noise. I do like the timer option.
Sound quality a disappointment
Sound quality was a disappointment. Some of the sounds were harsh and over powering, especially since it was used in bedroom at night.

I like but too early to tell
I developed "tinnitus" and purchased this product as I was told the "white noise" may help eliminate this issue. Have only been using it about 3 weeks so really too soon to tell for that issue but it is relaxing to fall asleep by.

I use to sleep with. My cat and I just love it. It blocks out all the outside noises to make for a nice comfortable sleep. It is one of those things that you can do without, but once you have it, you cant do with out it.

Sharper Image Came Through.
I purchased this product several months ago and had no trouble with it until I bought the optional sound card. Apparently, the original "Sound Soother" was not reading the card. After an easy phone call to Sharper Image Customer Service, I shipped the original back and it was simply exchanged. A new machine was shipped out immediately. The new one works perfectly with the optional sound card. This is what was once the "American Standard" in customer service. Thank you so much for raising the standard. Sharper Image Customer Service could hold classes in how to conduct business.
Great Product
I dont know what the people are talking about that say its flimsy or not very good. It works every time for me, not only with my personal favorite (white noise), but also every other one. Much better than the garbage from other stores. And I received it in two days!

Clean, slim lines with clear soothing sounds
I have owned a similar device, which lasted for almost 20 years. It was bulky and heavy and the sounds were a little tinny. This new unit is slim and lightweight and perfect for packing. I rely on the soothing ocean sound to keep me connected to the shore. Although I live in midcoast Maine, I am seven miles inland in the heavily wooded hills. All six of the sounds on this device are lovely and clear and perhaps I may even try one or more of them some sleepless night.

I like the fact that I can travel with it anywhere. There is a good selection of white noise to choose from however I think the "summer sounds" (crickets) are just too soft. Otherwise, great product!
disappointed
This product was such a disappointment. All the sounds were incredibly harsh...I dont know how anyone could fall asleep with this sound machine. I tried it out for several nights and it just kept me up. I purchased this because I have tinnitus and background noise helps make that less noticeable...but this sound machine just has awful sounds. They are not peaceful or soothing in any way! Also the control buttons are very flimsy.

Better than a lullabye
I usually have difficulty falling asleep and need some background noise. This is perfect. I can fall asleep very quickly now, and I get a very restful nights sleep.
relaxing and calming
I purchased this item for my 11 year old son who seems to have issues falling asleep. He sleeps on an upstairs floor where he can hear the house creak and crack. Its also super noisy upstairs when its windy or raining. Hes only had this a few days (Christmas) but it seems to do the job. Its relaxing and calming and helps him fall asleep easily. Although I find it funny- he has it set to the "rain" setting, which he doesnt like it when it rains. The item isnt large or bulky and looks pretty nice sitting on his bookcase in his bedroom.
Best Sound Machine EVER
I have been searching for a Sound Machine (this is my third device) that does not have bird sounds in the Ocean Mode. Thankfully, this one has nothing but waves lapping the shore. When Im trying to sleep, I dont want to hear birds chirping. This machine is perfect. All of the sound modes are pretty realistic and all are pleasant to doze off to sleep listening to. If you are a troubled sleeper, I highly recommend this Sound Machine.

I have to have bedroom dark and this produces no light. I bought Brookstones expensive model and i couldnt use enough black electrical tape to cover the light! Gave it to my daughter who doesnt mind a night light. We are trying to sleep for heavens sake! Im buying my second one for our lake house.

This was perfect. It was a gift for my Dad who just moved. During the move he was unable to take a huge fountain that was on his wall. He was so disappointed as that helped him sleep. So we got him this. It is small, compact, easy to use, and has many different sounds. He loves it, and is sleeping well!!!

I bought this because it can be used both power and batteries. My previous sound machine was a Brookstone Tranquil Moments. It worked great but the light on it was too bright. I did see many reviews with complaints about the bright light. This Sound Soother from Sharper Image has no light which I like.

Perfect Solution!
My husband has ringing ears and always needs white noise to block out sounds in order to sleep.He would run a fan all night to create the noise he needed. I would be uncomfortable with a dry mouth or be cold with the fan running. This device works well for him and me. Very happy with the purchase!!

Great Product
I love this sound machine. It has a continuous sound button so I can hear it all night. It drowns out all noises that would keep me awake. Also, it has a perfect continuous sound. Most machines have a small glitch just as the sound repeats. That glitch is annoying. This machine has NO GLITCH. The sound remains constant. It has a detachable electric cord and can be battery operated which is perfect for all situations.

This product is my sleep enhancer. I especially like the six choices of sounds. This model has the most realistic sounds of any model tested. The choices of time are especially helpful. I can use it all night, but use it most for one hour when I go to bed. The controls are simple and easy to use.

Looked around for a long time to find a product like this one. Others were bulky and had poor sound. This one has crystal clear sound and volume goes very high when required to block out significant noise.

Love the ocean sounds. I fall asleep easily to it, and if this is a bad thing, it makes me want to stay in bed. It does have 30/60/90 minute shutoffs but I prefer the continuous mode.

Good, simple sound machine
I bought this sound machine to mask my wifes snoring. The white noise setting does the job well. Only minor problem is it only has one white noise setting. Overall Im very pleased with it.

I find this product very useful in nurturing calming periods whether sleeping or working at a desk. There are a good variety of sounds and the built in timer means you can fall asleep and not worry about having to turn it off.
Great machine, concerned about long term
For the first 2 weeks, this was the best thing ever, especially the feature that allows it to play all night. Most have a 30 or 60 min timer. (This one includes all 3 options) For my son who struggles with waking up at night it was very important for his room to be the same as it was when he fell asleep. Especially the little bugs chirping. I like the different options. However, now I have to jiggle it a bit in the outlet to make sure it is in correctly or it doesnt play. Hopefully it will last a while.

I have two other sound machines and both have birds chirping in the ocean sounds mode. Birds dont fly at night, and when you are trying to sleep, you dont want to hear birds. This device is perfect and the sounds are realistic.

Love this...cant be without it.
I have a hard time falling asleep; I had another sleep machine originally, but it died on me. I love Sharper Image so took a look on their site and found this. I like the fact that it has other sounds besides just "white noise". I change to different sounds depending on my mood. It does a great job of blocking out background noise and the adjustable volume is great, especially when traveling, since you never know what type of room you will have and if the walls are thin.

white noise too soft
I bought this unit because it had white noise which I would use to drown out outside street noise. But it is so soft compared to the other sounds that I cant get it loud enough. I hope the optional Sound Card has a louder noise.

Husband loves it
Gave this to my husband for Christmas. Typically he is a "tough sale" for gadgets however he LOVES this sleep sound soother. He has used it every night and initially set it for 30 minutes. Last night he extended the sounds for 60 minutes as he really enjoys hearing the ocean. (Me I love the crickets)

Soothing
I am a chronic insomniac, and I have a lot of traffic noise outside of my apartment, as well as airplanes overhead. I wear earplugs, which doesnt drown out the noise. With this product I like to listen to crickets or the ocean and imagine I am somewhere else. It doesnt quite compete with the traffic but it gives me enough of a distraction without being intrusive that I can become very relaxed. I like the fact that it can go for 90 minutes and then taper off quietly unless you start it again. The one thing I would change is make the stand-up feature sturdier. It keeps falling off.
Pretty good
We got this to supplement our radio which has sound features of nature. Of the 6 choices, this Sharper Image model only features one sound that our radio does not have. Since we wanted variety, I can only recommmend this model if you want the standard Rain, Ocean, White Noice, Wind, etc. sounds.
Peaceful Sleep
Love this in my bedroom, but could also see this in an office setting. Instead of those messy tranquil water features, you could use this.

Well worth the price. Enough options to choose from and they all sound pretty close to the real things. The stream option is a little loud, but the others are nice. Ive tried another, more expensive white noise machine and this gadget is much better.

I have finally found the secret to a good nights sleep. Its Sharper Images White Noise machine. There are so many sound options to help you drift off that youre sure to find one that works for you. You will also notice a deeper sleep pattern emerge. I would have paid twice as much for it!!

Ive always needed a fan to sleep. This gets to be a problem when we travel. This product is light weight and great. It has replaced my fan.
Love this machine!
I use this product every night on the "continuous" option. Along with this, I use a Sleephones headband, which I plug into the convenient earphone jack located on the side of the machine; as a result, the sounds almost completely drown out the sound of my husbands snoring. This is one of the very few machines that offers the earphones jack. It also provides you with the option of hanging it on the wall or setting it in an upright or down position. I am extremely pleased with this product!
Good product
Having gone through several bulky "white noise" products in the past, I am very happy with the size of this product and how easy it is to transport. The 30-60-90-cont. controls are great for all night or just a nap. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because the white noise setting began to make a intermittent static noise after about 2 days of use (sounds almost like a blown speaker). Otherwise, a good product.
Sound Sleeping
As a seriously light sleeper, I use this product at night. I have noticed less restlessness and less get ups in the middle of the night. I normally get up 3-4x a night, but since using this sound therapy machine, i get up only 1x a night.

Comparison to existing device
I use this product to get me to sleep every night. I had another brand, but feel I am going to like this one better, particularly that I can have so many different sounds. The sound is good, and the design is attractive so that it blends with framed photos on my night table.
A good nights sleep
We use this when we sleep and the sounds are great and it has worked very well. The design is attractive. Our only concern was we had it on battery and selected continuous, it stopped by itself in the morning (we were not yet up). The controls did not work until we plugged it in. Weve used it since and the batteries work so dont know if there is a determinate time for "continuous". There were no instructions which would have helped. We have also ordered additional sound cards which we are still waiting on (they have a really good selection of sounds).

Tried the Rest-Sound Oasis is the Best!
We tried another product from a local "bricks and mortar" retailer. It was battery only and "ate" the batteries! Took it back and tried others in the store, but not impressed. Googled sleep machines and came up with Sharper Image. This Sound Oasis Six Sound machine is fabulous! Great quality of sound, design, etc. Ordered the optional Sound Card with 6 new sounds - couldnt get it to work - called the Sound Oasis company listed in guarantee - they called me back immediately and walked me through to success! Love, love, love the SERVICE!!

I use this for nighttime rest, meditation and general relaxation. It is also perfect for background music for my professional yoga therapy sessions.

A great product
We recently stayed in a hotel that used the sound Soother. I loved it and bought one as soon as I got home. It is very relaxing, I go to sleep faster and if I wake up during the night, I go right back to sleep. It helps screen out the noise of my neighbors who talk on their back patio almost every night. When my husband doesnt want to hear it, I just use my earphones and plug in. I think it is a great product and it is small enough to take with me when I travel

I have loud dogs and neighbors so I have a very hard time sleeping, so I have been looking for a good white noise machine for a very long time. I have found the one I will keep for always. All of the sounds are great. I loved that you could listen to them online first. All the sounds are calming and realistic. I like that you can have it low and still hear it. Its so compact it sits on my night stand. I listen to the white noise the most. I love it so much I leave it on all the time. The first night I used it I slept like a baby. I am so less stressed at home and can relax better. I just wish it came with a snap in place base. The one it comes with is pretty flimsy, but it does work. You will be very happy you bought this. I know I am!
A little pricey for me but ...
My wife uses the Sound Machine at bedtime to drown out other sounds in the house that may cause the dogs to bark. It also relaxes her.
Perfect for what we needed
We use this product to mask private converstions in our medication room. We hung it on the wall outside the door of the room and waiting patients cannot hear what is being said inside the room. A perfect use for this product
Sound so realistic, you could be there.
I dont like the quiet at bedtime and the only other choice was TV or music that my husband and I dont always agree on. This has a perfect selection for every night. We got the additional sounds of the sea card for more choices and they did not disappoint.
I am ordering a second machine.
I use this in a large room with high ceilings that at times gets road noise. Now you dont hear any road noise and the relaxing sounds lull me to sleep!
True realistic sound
I have tried other brands and could always hear the sound loop, however this product has a veried and natural sound. I use it every night, and look forward to the soothing environment it helps create.

We bought this same unit over 12 years ago and use it every evening in our bedroom for white noise. We take it with us on vacation and have put them in our kids rooms too-they block out all of the annoying noises that keep you awake!
Simple but good
This is a fairly simple design that works great. Advantages over some other similar products are the ease of use, longer timer settings, and not lots of bells and whistles that you wouldnt use anyway. The preset sounds are very nice.
Perfect ocean wave sound
We use this every night with the timer set to 60 minutes and the ocean waves sound playing. Love it! We also bought the sound card for additional wave sounds, but have primarily used the standard ocean setting.
I would buy his product again
Got this as a gift for my dad who is in a nursing home. Very soothing for him to listen to.

Meets Sharper Image high standards. Exactly as advertised. Very attractive, compact sound machine. Would easily fit nearly any decor, I think. However, I would encourage SI to offer this product perhaps in black.

Best-Ever White Noise Machine
The white noise is true white noise, not fan noise or static. Even at loud volume its soothing. On battery for travel its still loud enough, unlike other machines that have sounded weaker on battery power. At home, the plug-in works great too.
I love this product
I have an older model and I love it so I bought a newer model. The problem is you cant use the cartridges from the older model on the newer one. I wish they were interchangeable.
Great Product
Nice looking. Controls work fine. Sound button should be on the top somewhere. Cannot be changed while in bed with one hand, unless its pinned to wall or backboard. All in all its a good product. Money well spent.

Does what it is supposed to do
Provides good background so I dont hear my tinitus all night, allowing me to sleep more soundly. The only provided continual background noise, though, is white. Instead of adding noises that try to mimic nature sounds (babbling brook, rain storm, etc.) I would have prefered different continual background noises to choose from (white noise, pink noise, etc.) Otherwise this preforms eactly as advertised.

Good, but not great
I have always had trouble sleeping, and started sleeping with a box fan years ago; however, the box fan is trouble for people with allergies, winter, and travelling. I started using sound machines about five years ago. One thing that I didnt like about sound machines is that the white noise sound is a higher pitch than a fan sound, and this machine is no different. The white noise is a pretty standard white noise sound that is comparable across several popular machines (Ive tried Marsona, Brookstone, Lectrofan, and a few others). What I do like about this product is the design; it is light, compact, and portable (for travelling). It operates on both batteries and a plug, so you can even take it on a wilderness adventure. I wish the volume could go higher and the sounds were a little different and had a lower pitch option. This is the best one out there if you absolutely need a machine that runs on batteries, but if you dont care about that or need something a lower pitch, you might look elsewhere.

Seems like a great product so far, really like the variety of sound it produces. We moved to a busy street and needed something to help our kid sleep better so I found this. The sound quality is the only thing I think could be a little better, but it really isnt bad at all.

Other products give you a "tinty" sound and background noise that is simply unbearable! Only Shaper Image has true to life recordings that help me go to sleep faster. I had one like this and it lasted 10 years! It would have probably lasted longer if my daughter hadnt broken off the knob. I cant sleep without it as I am a light sleeper, and this device drowns out any unwanted sounds.
And so to SLEEP............
We live across from a fire department....a very busy one. It is a tolerent noise, but one that often left us with a somewhat disturbed sleep. Now the edges seem to be ironed out and we are wrapped in soothing comfort.

Sleep! Finally!
I bought this because I was having so much trouble sleeping with my two dogs and partner all snoring! I use it every night and the sound is wonderful and I can turn up the volume if they snore even louder! Controls are easy to use and the sleek modern look fits my decor very well.
