The product does not run on solar power, as was implied in the catalog description. Disappointing as my intent was to use it in the sun. Battery life a little short for beach use
Good product
I purchased this for emergency use only which means I wont be using this much and havent yet. But I did test it to make sure everything worked as stated and it does. All radio stations came in clearly. The light on the side isnt that bright but the light behind the solar panel is. This was more expensive than other ones I saw at different stores but it had everything I needed and wanted.

After researching emergency radios this was my pick and there were additional features that came in addition to my requirements. I am very happy with my radio and I will be set in an emergency.
GREAT GIFT
I gave this as a gift to my brother, he could not be happier, after Frankenstorm Sandy, he wanted a Radio with all the bells and whistles he could get, the only dissapointment I had it doesnt come with SW band, nevertheless I was a great gift.

This part of TX has thunderstorms every afternoon...during Spring and Summer. NOAA notifications are very important, because flash flooding can be a problem.

Awesome with one flaw
The only flaw that I found so far (and Ive only owned this for a week or so) is that you have to manually dial in whatever shortwave radio band youre looking for. Which means you have to know the frequency, at least with my shortwave scanner I can hit scan and get whoever is broadcasting. Oh sure they give you some of the more popular bands but it doesnt cover them all. Other than that, I LOVE IT!!!
Storm readiness
I needed a radio to know the news and weather during power outages
Unfortunately it did not work!
I gave it one star because unfortunately, I could not get the product to work as it was designed. The only part that worked was the reading light. I changed the batteries twice to no avail. I am sure had the product worked I would have loved it. It had all of the features I needed and more. Since I could not get it to work, I returned it.

Very nice little emergency radio
This is a nice little emergency radio with a number of nice features for use when the power goes out. Weather radio offered several options, handcrank appears to be fairly sturdy, though it takes a lot of cranking to charge it up. Solar recharging was a bit of a disappointment, particularly since the instructions say to not leave the radio in the sun too long (?). This radio will need to be kept plugged in or the battery charge will run out by the time there is an actual emergency. Otherwise it looks cool on my shelf and serves the purpose of emergency light and radio very well.

I purchased this item mainly for emergencies. I havent had to try it during an emergency as yet. I find this product. Compact, and well made. Playing with it, I find it a very good must have for emergencies or for none emergencies. Its a goog little radio as well. I like mine. The price isnt too bad for all this radio does.
Good Emergency Radio
We bought this radio for use in power outages or to take on trips if bad weather is expected. The controls are clear and easy to use and are better than the Eton FX5 we previously bought and returned. The display is much easier to see and use than the Eton as well. The only disappointment is having to purchase the AC adapter separately - this should be part of the package price.

just great to have in an emergency. we recently lost electricity due to hurricane sandy. had we had one of these, we couldve been using the flashlight, listenning to the radio, charging my wifes iphone so she could browse the internet,etc

Replacing one unit
We ordered two units. One arrived with a cracked case, even though the box was not damaged. I assume this is result of quality control. We plan to use the radios during bad storms in Florida.

A great thing to have in an emergency
My brother-in-law is a security freak and lives with my sister in the Catskill Mts, subject to severe weather and power outages. This is perfect. Seems to have everything necessary to survive a storm, and its a nice little radio in good weather. He was very happy with the gift. I got the AC adapter for times when power is available.

I moved to an area that has frequent power outages. I got the radio right before Sandy hit the east coast. Fortunately we were spared, but I put the radio to the test and it passed with flying colors! The solar and crank charges as advertised (very impressive). Took it on a camping trip and it was the first time a "gadget for electronics" actually worked out there correctly.

I Hope I Dont Need It But . . .
. . . If I do need it, I know it will be very useful. Two and a half years ago we were hit very hard by Superstorm Sandy here in New York City. Our building was without power for nearly a week. I had to scramble to find batteries that were still good. This radio takes batteries out of the equation. Very bright LED flashlight and reading lights, plus a charging port for a cellphone. What more could you want in an emergency situation?
It also serves as a nice radio to have for non-emergency enjoyment. The reception was good all over my apartment. I would recommend purchasing the AC adapter so that you can quickly charge the NiH battery, allowing the radio to be ready to go whether its an emergency or for casual use.
Great device for storms
After Hurricane Sandy I wanted to have this in the house, trying to get more solar flashlights and emergency radio for bad Noreaster storms. Just got it so yet to be storm tested.

A friend when the power is out.
I needed this Emergency Handcrank Power Radio during our last power outage. Since my unprepared four day power outage from hurricane Sandy, I made sure I wouldnt get caught like that again and prepared myself now with dozens of batteries for those new type lanterns for short outages and a 6500 watt gas generator for another Sandy type storm. I have these backup items, but having this handcrank radio makes me feel a little more secure because those batteries could die and the generator can run out of gas, but when all else fails, the handcrank radio makes its own power, need I say more, except, get one for yourself you thank the Emergency Handcrank Power Radio company when the time comes when your electric goes out.

I live in FL on the coast, and am always on the look out for items that I can add to my hurricane kit to make life easier when the power goes out. THIS IS IT! To be able to have a clock, radio, flashlight, reading light, and charge my cell phone & ipod all in one place, and have a choice of hand crank or solar recharging, makes this the perfect choice.
Does everything you could ask for
Has everything you could ask for. Not the most durable item out there - the antenna wonked out a little within a few days - and I wish the buttons on the front of the radio were backlit. Aside from that, weve been finding this to be a useful and fun gadget. Really looking forward to using it on our camping trips.

My Review
I am what some would call a prepper. I have placed the item in a faraday bag within my go bag to shield it from potential electromagnetic pulses. This item is an integral part of my prepping. I live in the mountains,where we get occasional power outages. Last one was over 30 hours, and we DID not have this unit. It arrived 3 days later. In setting it up, I was amazed how easy it was to charge the internal batteries, and set up time. Also-have the function of charging cell phones, would have come in handy. I just purchased a second unit , to keep in the truck.

I am someone who likes to hear songs most of the day, and this helps me whenever I have to do different things around the house, and also whenever I have to go do things out in public!
You could just say that all that I need to do is turn on my stereo, but this is more compact, and it doesnt require you to plug it into anything.
Also, it has the radio channels so that I can hear anything with regards to the weather.

I really love the product once I learned how to use it through trial and error. I found the instructions to be very confusing and not clear.
I learned to use it during a storm in which the alert came on only when in "battery crank" and "solar power" settings. It would not work in the adaptor setting.
A little disappointed that I could not use adaptor to ensure the alert would notify me of a storm etc.
